Verona: unified the headquarters of the traffic center and the local police.

Since March 12th there has been only a glass door separating the Traffic Center from the Operations Center of the local Police, which left the old headquarters in via del Pontiere for the one in Lungadige Galtarossa, where the Mobility and Traffic offices were already located . A result expected for at least six years to which the administration gave great priority and which it was able to implement quickly.

It's thanks to thesebrainiacs' that the city is constantly monitored and patrolled, in public spaces, squares and gardens, as well as in city streets, from major arteries to neighborhood streets.

A 24 hour service, 7 days a week, which in case of emergency allows us to intervene quickly with the necessary measures. Prevention is the watchword and to do it best, the centers must talk to each other in real time, share databases and information, also in connection with the other city law enforcement agencies and bodies such as Atv, Amia, Agsm-Aim, Acque Veronesi .

It is with this in mind that the Integrated system for mobility and safety, the complex technological system aimed at controlling the territory and monitoring urban mobility made up of numerous telematic systems coordinated and managed through some territorial operations centers connected to each other.

Everything efficient in view also fromstart a Verona of the G7 summit for which an extraordinary safety and traffic plan has been prepared. An appointment that is just one of the many events scheduled between now and the next few months, from Vinitaly at the opening of the underpass in via Città di Nimes, from visit of Pope Francis on May 18 at the G7 of the Lower House in October. Not to mention the major works underway such as the High Speed/High Capacity and those for the trolleybus, or the great appointment with the Olympics in 2026.

Our centers have always managed data and information on territorial control activities, it was essential to put them together to anticipate any critical issues and this step makes them even more functional and suitable for the challenges that our city is called upon to face not only during major events but also in everyday life.”

“An objective we started working towards since the first months of the settlement, grasping the needs and opportunities – said Security Councilor Stefania Zivelonghi -. Here the Centers will work to prevent inconveniences and difficulties, an operation that citizens do not see but from which they benefit, this is the work of those who do prevention. Thanks to this union, communications between centers are facilitated by the implementation of a sophisticated instrumentation system and by physical and visual proximity which shortens intervention and reaction times, especially in crisis conditions. Furthermore, in case of need, the Civil Protection operations center can be activated here, and also from this point of view the efficiency increase will be notable. The objective was achieved thanks to great teamwork by the offices and technicians involved who achieved what was strongly requested by the Tommasi administration in a reasonable time.”

“Thanks to this unification we will have a more controlled city in terms of traffic flows and on the safety front – added the Mobility Councilor Tommaso Ferrari -. A result, which represents from an operational point of view that silent improvement that is often not noticed, which helps public offices, the city, the institutions to prevent crisis phenomena. Because we applaud when a crisis is resolved but not when, thanks to a timely control system, we have been able to prevent the problem, even before it arises."

“The security issues – added the local police commander Luigi Altamura – coming from the community require a high level of supervision on a strategic and operational level, and consequently the implementation of integrated territorial control systems involving all levels of government and consequently the interventions by the Police Force must make use of the collaboration of the local police, which represents an added value both for the incisiveness and adherence to the local reality and for the economy and effectiveness of prevention devices, for which control action must be encouraged through fixed or mobile controls. ”

All this justifies the demanding logistical and economic efforts to create the new unified centers and the traffic crisis management room which will allow the staff in charge effective and synergistic monitoring of the territory, heritage protection, urban safety control and traffic management.

The centers organized in two distinct but contiguous operational spaces guarantee the necessary physical separation with the respective institutional hierarchies with the typical synergy of a single logical command center in order to optimize response times in relazionor to the needs highlighted by the territory.
They will also be able to take advantage of some new generation technological platforms such as the Authority Control Room (ACR) and the Transport Operator Console (TOC), recent investments made thanks to funding from the POR-FESR 2014-2020 programming which allow mobility management at an integrated level and connected with digital regional systems and the Road Safety Information Coordination Center (CISS) of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transport.
The organization of the new centers will guarantee more effective protection towards the upcoming and future challenges that await Verona and its territory.

The unification of the headquarters of the two Headquarters was carried out in agreement with the Coordination for Public Order and Security (COSP) coordinated by the Prefecture of Verona. Today at the inauguration the Prefect of Verona Demetrio Martino, the Police Commissioner Roberto Massucci, the representatives of the police forces of Verona and province and of the institutions that in various capacities collaborate with the Administration on safety and traffic issues.
