To Milano-Cortina 2026: investments, infrastructures and development, Fontana “an opportunity for all of Lombardy”
The Winter Olympics of Milano-Cortina 2026 represent a unique opportunity for the Lombardy and Valtellina, not only from a sporting point of view, but also from an economic, infrastructural and touristic one. During the event "Towards Milano-Cortina 2026”, held in Sondrio, the president of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, and the councilor Massimo Sertori, together with the president of the Foundation Milano-Cortina and CONI, Giovanni Malagò, highlighted the importance of the event for the territory
Le Olympics as a tool to promote investments, strengthen infrastructures and enhance the excellence of the territory, within the framework of a synergic vision between the stakeholders involved that promotes a fruitful collaboration between the public and private sectors. This is the key theme of the speech by the President of the Lombardy Region, Attilio Fontana, who participated yesterday, February 14, in Sondrio, together withCouncillor for Local Authorities, Mountain, Energy Resources, Use of Water Resources, Massimo Sertori, at the event 'To Milano Cortina 2026′, organized and promoted by the Province, APF Valtellina and the Region in collaboration with Polisportiva Albosaggia and the Municipality of Sondrio.
The meeting, which was attended, among others, by president of the Foundation Milano-Cortina and CONI, Giovanni Malagò, was the occasion to take stock, less than a year from the start of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, on the opportunities of this great sporting event, which sees Valtellina and the whole of Lombardy in a leading role.
"Milano Curtain 2026 – President Fontana and Councillor Sertori specified – represents first of all an opportunity for the entire territory, a driving force for investments. An event that will leave behind infrastructures and an important intangible heritage, but also an opportunity to enhance local excellence from a sporting, touristic, cultural and technological point of view".
"Unlike Expo 2015, an event focused exclusively on Milano – Fontana underlined – the'a peculiar aspect of the Winter Olympics is its territorial diffusion, thanks to which, in addition to the capital, a large part of the Lombardy territories will be directly involved, in particular Valtellina. In this context, the role of the Lombardy Region is crucial to guarantee a strategic vision, capable of fully deploying all the opportunities linked to the event".
In this perspective, the vision of the Lombardy Region, focused on the promotion of virtuous synergies between public and private, has once again proven to be a winner. From the beginning – said the governor – we have shared any initiative related to the Olympics with all the economic, social and institutional partnerships that adhere to the 'Pact for Development', which represents the privileged location for public-private consultation for strategic policies. This model of collaboration and sharing has been the key to the records achieved so far by Lombardy and will also prove effective for the Olympics".
Il The President of the Region also recalled the recent agreement signed with the trade unions and trade associations for the dissemination of the 'Guidelines for safety on construction sites of major works': “It is a tool to urge contracting authorities for works relating to the Olympics, PNRR and Piano Lombardia to pay particular attention to workers and their safety.".
Councilor Sertori then highlighted the role of the Olympic Games and their legacy as a way of enhancing the territories.Lombardy will be an absolute protagonist at a global level in the organization of major sporting events. A source of great pride for Valtellina, for our entire region and for the entire country. And to make Lombardy's role even more significant there will also be the 2028 Winter Youth Olympics, which we have won together with Veneto and Trentino, with the 'Dolomiti Valtellina 2028' project, a goal built on the legacy of the Olympics in Milano Cortina. In this way, the territory is offered a new important event after two years".
