Cuneo, Operation “Pater Familias”: Thieves Sentenced to One to Eight Years in Prison
Between July 26 and September 13 last year, the Carabinieri of the Investigation Unit of the Operations Department of The Carabinieri of Cuneo had arrested 9 people in execution of two precautionary custody orders issued by the GIP at the Court of Asti holding them responsible for criminal conspiracy aimed at home burglaries, atimproper use of payment instruments and forgery of license plates, contesting themor the commission of 64 home burglaries committed in the Cuneo area and in the provinces of Alessandria and Asti in the period included between December 2022 and July 2023.
Investigations, in particular, coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Asti, they had demonstrated how the suspects had formed a structured association, where everyone had predefined tasks both in the commission of thefts and in collateral activities such as evading investigations through the periodic reclamation of the vehicles in use and the fictitious registration of the vehicles in their own name. The use of cloned license plates was also highlighted (during the investigations the use of 23 false license plates) and the systematic color change of cars through the wrapping technique, that is, applying adhesive films to the bodywork.
Last June 14th the Ordinary Court of Asti – Office of the GIP, in summary proceedings, condemned:
AC to the penalty of 8 years and 4 months of imprisonment and a fine of Euro 4.000, as well as the payment of court costs and prison maintenance costs, declaring the accused banned indefinitely from holding public office and in a state of legal interdiction during the execution of the sentence;

CN to the penalty of years 1 of imprisonment and to pay the court costs.
AC, ALM and PF they were also sentenced to compensation for damages, moral and material, to the civil parties.
Two other suspects are currently untraceable on national territory. It is also good remember that the one in question is only the first instance sentence, reason why the defendants should still be considered innocent until a definitive conviction is issued.
The ruling in question, obtained thanks, if not above all, to the complaints presented by the victims, absolutely necessary for the establishment of criminal proceedings, constitutes both although a partial and limited response to the population's concerns, and to the correlative request for increased security, for a phenomenon, such as that of home thefts and scams against the elderly which represents a social plague that grips the area.
