Vicenza: Woman assaulted in Viale Roma, 28-year-old Italian immediately hit by an Order to Leave the city
The attacker who, shortly before midnight on February 3, 2025, in Viale Roma, at the height of the exedra, attacked a woman, causing her injuries that will heal in eight days, has been identified by the local police of Vicenza. The attacker is SD, 28 years old, originally from the province of Potenza, already affected on October 14, 2024 by an Order of Removal from the city of Vicenza, with a mandatory expulsion order for four years.
An important result, the fruit of the work carried out by the agents and the valuable contribution of the witnesses, presented this morning at the local police command by the mayor of Vicenza Giacomo Possamai, by the commander Massimo Parolin and by the commissioner Mirco Bassetto.
«I want to thank the local police of Vicenza – the words of the mayor Possamai -, the men and women who were able, in recent days, to identify the attacker, a 28-year-old Italian, of the girl who on February 3rd had been stopped while recovering a bicycle in the Viale Roma area. It was an important investigative work obtained thanks to the testimonies of citizens who, that day and in the following days, helped to identify this person. Once again, the help and collaboration between the police and citizens proved decisive».
Words, reiterated by Commander Parolin: «The intervention of the local police was immediate. Surely, however, without the help of the citizens we would not have been able to achieve the result we obtained, that is, the identification of the culprit. The activity of the local police, which is continuously engaged in curbing these phenomena, has led to 2024 thousand interventions in the entire city territory in 15 alone, to combat these phenomena that cause strong social alarm».
The night the attack occurred, the 28-year-old man, riding a bicycle, approached the 36-year-old woman, who was trying to pick up a bike from the Bike Sharing service. The man, in a threatening tone, ordered the victim not to move; the frightened woman, after telling the individual that she had nothing with her and that she had to go home, quickly walked towards Piazzale De Gasperi. When the 28-year-old reached her, the unfortunate woman was hit and thrown to the ground, hitting her head on the ground. The woman's screams attracted the attention of some passers-by, who were walking their dog near the Campo Marzo hotel. The man, recognized by witnesses as an Italian homeless man who often begs in the historic center, then fled towards Giardino Salvi. The 36-year-old was rescued by Suem, before being taken to the emergency room, where she was found to have a head trauma, a graze on her elbow and other bruises on her body.
The local police intervened immediately, arriving on the scene with a patrol. The detailed description of the man by the witnesses allowed the officers to immediately give an identity to the attacker who, despite the searches that took place that night, was not traced. A further testimony by one of the bystanders, provided a few days after the attack, finally confirmed that the author of the threats and injuries to the woman is the 28-year-old from Potenza.
For the occasion, Commissioner Bassetto presented some data relating to the activity of the internal judicial police in 2024: 154 subjects investigated, 260 reports against unknown persons for various crimes (such as damage and theft), 60 people photographed, 50 people investigated for drunk driving, 3 for driving under the influence of drugs, another 3 for driving without a license, 4 people investigated for robbery, 15 for theft, 5 for receiving stolen goods, 6 for defacement and damage, 21 for resisting a public official, 6 occupations of other people's buildings or lands, 4 for possession of weapons without authorization, 37 other reports in compliance with the expulsion order (fraud, threats, false attestations in public documents, violence, violation of the residence permit), 36 reports for loss, 337 notifications (many for the Prosecutor's Office), and 517 documents returned to the people who they had lost them.
