A case without answers in Torri di Quartesolo: the condition of the 49-year-old woman found in a pool of blood has worsened.
The case of Diana Canevarolo, the 49-year-old woman found at dawn on Thursday, December 4th, lying in a pool of blood in the courtyard of her home in Torri di Quartesolo, has become an increasingly dark mystery. The woman's medical condition, already desperate when she was found, dramatically worsened overnight. Admitted to the intensive care unit of the San Bortolo Hospital in Vicenza, she is now in a deep coma, with extensive head trauma that prevents further diagnostic workup, and doctors are constantly monitoring her.
Dawn on December 4th: A shocking scene in the silence of the courtyard
It all began shortly after 5:00 a.m., when the Suem 118 operations center received a frantic call: two voices, one mature and male, the other young, reporting a woman lying on the ground, unconscious and surrounded by a large pool of blood. It was still dark, but the flashlights and the building lights were enough to reveal the violence of the scene. Diana Canevarolo was lying motionless on the asphalt in the courtyard of number 16 Via Zara, in front of the garages. Her partner, Vincenzo Arena, had found her, waking up very early like every day to get to the steelworks where he works. Taken aback by the dramatic scene, he immediately called his 19-year-old son Nicolò, and together they alerted emergency services.
The race against time of the Suem 118 health workers
The arrival of the medical car and ambulance was rapid. The 118 doctor, after an initial examination, immediately determined the situation was extremely serious, as the woman had a severe head injury. Despite her dropping body temperature and the possible length of time she had spent on the ground, the paramedics were able to stabilize her and intubate her. Then, with sirens blaring, they rushed to San Bortolo Hospital, where the patient was taken into the care of the intensive care team. However, her clinical condition, which had appeared critical from the start, dramatically worsened over the course of the night, further compromising any possibility of a direct assessment.
The alert was raised at the police station and investigators were immediately mobilized.
The severity of the injuries and the complete lack of a clear explanation prompted the doctors to immediately contact the hospital police station. From there, the investigative protocol was activated: the Flying Squad, led by Deputy Commissioner Lorenzo Ortensi, and the Forensic Police rushed to Via Zara, where they spent hours carrying out surveys, collecting samples, and analyzing every possible trace. Meanwhile, Deputy Prosecutor Camilla Menegoni ordered the seizure of the woman's apartment, necessary to rule out or confirm any possible incidents that may have occurred inside the home.
A quiet neighborhood gripped by anguish
Via Zara is a seemingly quiet residential area, lined with small apartment buildings and villas, just steps from the southern ring road and the Le Piramidi shopping center. None of the neighbors, interviewed individually by investigators, appear to have heard any suspicious noises during the night.
The officers have acquired footage from private surveillance cameras installed in surrounding homes, hoping that some images will allow them to reconstruct at least part of what happened.
The hypotheses being examined by the prosecutor's office: no leads excluded
Chief Prosecutor Lino Giorgio Bruno made it clear from the very first hours that there is currently no prevailing hypothesis. It could have been an accidental or involuntary fall from the first-floor window, and a possible assault has not been ruled out. The absence of a blunt object near the body, the lack of obvious signs of a struggle, and the impossibility of questioning the victim make the investigation particularly complex. There is no evidence to suggest a third-party involvement, but neither is there any evidence to rule it out. The formalization of the case file is also under evaluation and is awaiting further evidence: it could be filed against unknown persons or under non-criminal charges.
Testimonies from husband, son and rescuers
In the hours following her hospitalization, the husband and son were interviewed by investigators, who are attempting to reconstruct the family routine and the last moments the woman was seen at home. Their statements match the circumstances of her discovery. The emergency medical service doctor was also interviewed immediately and then accompanied directly to the scene in the late morning to provide more accurate descriptions of the victim's position and condition when rescuers arrived. Recordings of the emergency calls to 118 were also acquired, which are considered useful for assessing the emotional and temporal context of the report.
A woman suspended between life and death and an investigation without certainties
While investigators continue their work gathering and analyzing available evidence, Diana Canevarolo's medical condition remains very serious. Doctors at San Bortolo continue to monitor her closely, while her partner and son remain in the hospital awaiting updates. The investigation continues on multiple fronts, and until new evidence emerges, the exact circumstances of the incident remain unclear.
