Bassano del Grappa: flees on a scooter and attacks the police, arrested

On the afternoon of Wednesday 5 March 2025, the State Police Agents on duty at the Bassano del Grappa Police Station arrested EDI, a 24-year-old Moroccan citizen with no fixed abode in the country, for the crime of resisting a public official, causing bodily harm and refusing to provide information on personal identity.

At around 14.15pm, the Flying Squad Operators, while they were near the railway station, in via De Blasi, they noticed a young man arriving from the adjacent bus parking lot on an electric scooter, carrying a passenger, both without protective helmets. The Agents ordered the Police to stop the two young men, who, passing about a meter away from one of the Operators, accelerated, fleeing along via De Blasi, in the direction of Viale Venezia. The police quickly got into the service car and started chasing the two on scooters until via De Blasi, when they split up, abandoning their means of transport on the street. The chase continued on foot and one of the two was caught up with soon after.

The patrol leader invited the young man to give his personal details; however, the young man, with an uncooperative attitude, confronted the Police Officer with threats and insults. In the meantime, the other Officer also arrived and the young man suddenly began to hit the Officers with elbows, continuing to threaten them. He then grabbed a metal bar that happened to be abandoned on the ground and tried to hit the Officers, failing in his attempt, while, instead, he managed to bite one of them on the forearm.

Once blocked, the young man was declared under arrest and taken to the company car and then to the Police Station offices where he was subjected to photo-dactyloscopic tests and fully identified. The metal bar used was recovered and seized.

Following the attack, one of the Police Officers was visited at the local Emergency Room of the San Bassiano Hospital with a diagnosis of "sprain to the left elbow and abrasions", with a 4-day prognosis.

For the conduct assumed, various administrative disputes to the Highway Code were made.

During the evening of Wednesday, the relatives of the arrested man showed up at the police station, showing an application for international protection submitted in November 2024.
