Bassano del Grappa: caught red-handed while trying to steal from a parked car. 48 year old arrested.

On the evening of Saturday 17 August 2024, during the course of the territorial patrol service, a crew of the Flying Squad of the Bassano del Grappa police station, passing inside the public car park adjacent to the entrance to the Bassano railway station, in via Andriolo, noticed an individual who, suspiciously, was fiddling with an object in his hands, near a parked gray car.

Immediately reached by the Agents, the subject, first, with a sudden sprint, moved away, reaching for a bicycle; on this occasion he dropped a bag on the ground, then demonstrated behavior that was intolerant of control.

The man was identified as OM, a 48 year old Italian citizen, resident in Vicenza, upon specific request, after some hesitation, he showed the contents of the green bag dropped shortly before which he found to contain: a green bag, a women's perfume, 5 paper blisters containing coins of various denominations for a total of 110 Euros, a women's watch, a mobile phone, a 5 Euro banknote, two pairs of sunglasses, a camera roll holder with some coins inside for a total value of 5 Euros.

Regarding possession of these objects, OM provided several conflicting explanations, arousing further suspicion in the officers who intervened who, given the circumstances of time and place and the subject's numerous criminal and/or police records, also for crimes against property, they carried out a personal search on him pursuant to art.4 of L.152/75 which allowed cutting scissors and a screwdriver to be found inside the trouser pockets which were seized.

The Agents noted that the gray car near which they had noticed the subject fiddling had the right side rear deflector broken and the rear door open. The owner of the vehicle, duly tracked down, provided a description of the objects present in the passenger compartment corresponding to part of those found in OM's possession

On the same evening, The owner of the mobile phone was also traced and reported that it had been stolen, two pairs of sunglasses and the banknote from inside the passenger compartment of his vehicle parked along a street in Fontaniva (PD), not yet reported.

In light of the above, the police officers proceeded against OM with arrest in flagrante delicto of OM for the crime of aggravated theft from parked cars, as well as the report in a state of freedom for the crimes of receiving stolen goods and unjustified possession of objects suitable for burglary.
At the disposal of the Judicial Authority, the man was placed under house arrest, awaiting the validation hearing.
