THEPolice operation It took place late last Tuesday evening and has prevented another important shipment of cocaine from arriving in the Gioia Tauro plain to feed the ever-growing drug market managed by the most powerful 'ndrine in the area; 137 kg of pure cocaine seized, in fact, in retail sales, they would have earned at least 15 million euro.
The cargo was stored inside a compartment in the underfloor of a truck trailer covered with bags of powdered glue.
The investigations start from a Report from the Central Directorate for Anti-Drug Services relating to a large load of cocaine hidden on board an articulated lorry in transit on the national territory.
Having received the communication, the Central Operations Service of the State Police has started coordinating the investigations to identify the heavy vehicle. The search also involved the Traffic Police Departments.
Having traced the vehicle, the investigators of the Flying Squad of Reggio Calabria they identified the driver in a 40 year old man, originating from Polistena with previous of police for various crimes. The Traffic Police of Vibo Valentia ha stopped the vehicle near the Sant'Onofrio (VV) motorway junction.
The subsequent search, conducted with the aid of adog unit, allowed to 137,5 kg of cocaine found divided into 125 vacuum-sealed heat-sealed blocks weighing 1,1 kg each. The drug has a wholesale value of 3 million euros about and one travel, in the squares I deal, of at least 15 million euros.
The man was taken in arrest for the crime of possession and transportation of narcotic substances.
The investigation activity was coordinated by the Prosecutor of the Republic of Vibo Valentia and performed by the men of Central Operative Serviceand Reggio Mobile Squad and Traffic Police of Vibo Valentia with the collaboration ofCanine unit of the Vibo Police Headquarters.
