San Costantino Calabro: Weapons and drugs seized and assault on a soldier, one arrest
The activity of the Provincial Command of the Carabinieri continues incessantly for the control of the territory, according to the directives given by the Attorney Camillo Falvo, aimed at countering the widespread phenomenon of the proliferation of clandestine weapons and preventing settling of scores even for trivial reasons, in a trigger-happy province where on more than one occasion the logic of “do-it-yourself” justice has prevailed.
As part of this strategy prepared in synergy with the Public Prosecutor's Office of Vibo Valentia, during a local search conducted in San Costantino Calabro, Cannicelle area, the Carabinieri of the Mileto and Francica Stations, together with personnel from the “Calabria” Helicopter Hunter Squadron and the Carabinieri dog handlers, They found a large quantity of weapons, narcotics and cutting materials.
In detail: a Franchi brand double-barreled shotgun, 12 gauge with the serial number erased; a freely available gas pistol, modified and without the red cap, 100 grams of gunpowder, 6 12 gauge cartridges, a 7.65 caliber bullet, 65 grams of heroin, 64 grams of marijuana, 263 grams of cutting agent, opium poppy seeds, 2 precision scales, industrial film, break-in tools.
The entire amount of material, carefully hidden to evade detection, was attributed to the person arrested in flagrante delicto, who is considered presumed responsible for the illicit possession of narcotics, illegal possession of weapons and unjustified possession of altered keys. During operations, the arrested man allegedly resisted by attacking a member of the Carabinieri who was carrying out his duties.
The arrest and seizure, which represent an important operational result, are the fruit of a scrupulous investigative action conducted under the careful supervision of the Prosecutor Camillo Falvo. Technical-ballistic tests on the seized materials, entrusted to the SIS of the Provincial Command, will be able to provide further details on the origin and possible use of the weapons in a criminal context. In compliance with the principle of presumption of innocence, the arrested man is considered innocent until a final conviction is issued and every piece of evidence collected will be subjected to scrutiny at trial.
These operational results confirm the constant commitment of the Carabinieri and the Vibo Valentia Prosecutor's Office in fighting crime and protecting the safety of citizens. The collaboration between the Police and the Judicial Authority proves, once again, an essential tool to combat the phenomenon of the illegal spread of weapons on the territory.
