Turin: Operation “Save the baby”. A couple who wanted to give away a newborn baby in exchange for money was stopped

La State Police di Turin, last March 12, executed, under the constant coordination of the local Public Prosecutor's Office, an order of arrest of a crime suspect, issued by the Public Prosecutors in charge of the investigation, against two Moroccan citizens, husband and wife, since they are seriously suspected of having illegally introduced a newborn baby into Italy from Morocco, exposing her to danger for her life.

On the same occasion they were taken in arrest, in flagrante delicto, two other subjects, their compatriots, for personal aiding and abetting because, in order to evade investigations, they had directly facilitated the minor's illegal presence on the national territory.

The complex investigative activity began following a signal, received by the local Public Prosecutor's Office, which a Moroccan family, living in Turin, had hosted a newborn baby girl, a stranger to that family nucleus, for a few weeks, with the intention of selling her to third parties.

This news was confirmed by a series of circumstances which revealed that the little girl had arrived in Italy with the woman of the couple, last October, on a ship coming from Tangier and that the small one, presumably born in August 2024, had been transported, without being registered in the passenger list, in a shopping bag.

The journey, which was particularly long, had created some problems for the minor, so much so that, once she arrived in this capital, the woman took her to a city hospital to be examined.

The newborn, whose biological mother is currently being investigated, was apparently given by the latter to the suspect, so that she could be transported from Morocco to Italy and most likely sold to a third family.

After the infant's entry into the National Territory, the couple, in order to evade possible investigations, found two compatriots, a man and a woman, willing to temporarily keep the minor, while waiting to find a permanent placement for the little girl.

The complex investigation activity has in fact allowed us to ascertain that the suspects were looking for someone who was willing to take care of the child, obtaining the custody in exchange for money or, alternatively, if the investigations led to the possible tracking of the minor, to transport her abroad, before she was located, in order to guarantee impunity and that the little girl was never found.

After weeks of investigation, last March 12, investigators from the Turin Flying Squad and of the Section of the Judicial Police of the local Public Prosecutor's Office, thanks to the investigations carried out and the technical activity started, have finally identified the home of the couple, located in this capital, who were temporarily taking care of the minor and, after having gained access there, they traced the little girl.

La bimba, who was found to be in good health, was immediately transported to a city hospital for the necessary health checks, waiting to be placed with a foster family.

The long and laborious investigative activity carried out has also allowed us to collect a series of irrefutable elements of evidence against the couple who had organised and carried out the transport of the newborn to Italy; elements which have induced the local Public Prosecutor's Office to issue a decree of arrest of a suspect in a crime for violation of the Consolidated Law on Immigration.

At the same time, the two individuals appointed to temporarily take care of the child and found in his company at the time of the tracking were taken to arrest, in flagrante delicto.
