Turin: He steals an ATM and buys cigarettes and scratch cards.

State Police officers arrested a forty-year-old Italian citizen, seriously suspected of theft by sleight of hand and improper use of credit and payment cards.

The police officers of the General Prevention and Public Aid Office intervene in a restaurant in the San Paolo neighborhood, following a report of a theft of a wallet that occurred in the restaurant.

On site, the officers learned that the victim had been robbed of his ATM card and that it had been used by another customer, present there, sitting at another table.

From the stories, it emerges that the man had entered the restaurant and taken a seat at the table next to the one where four people were sitting.

One of them takes out a plastic document holder and puts it back in her bag. After a few minutes, she receives some bank notifications regarding transactions made with the ATM.

At that moment he notices that the document holder is missing and that the person sitting at the next table is no longer there. One of the diners immediately goes to the tobacconist in the area where the transactions had been made, finding confirmation of the operations.

In addition, on this occasion, a passerby gives the tobacconist a cash machine found outside the shop. Meanwhile, in the restaurant, the customer at the other table returns to finish his meal.

When questioned by the victim about the facts, the man threw the document holder on the ground, claiming that it had always been there.

At the tobacconist's, the officers found that a person with characteristics compatible with those of the restaurant customer had shortly before purchased two packs of cigarettes and a yellow lighter, paying with a debit card.

Two intact packs of cigarettes of the same brand, a yellow lighter of the same type and four scratch cards were found in the possession of the alleged perpetrator.

The police found that these too had been purchased with the same ATM card, but from the external vending machine and that the ATM card was subsequently dropped on the ground.

In light of the facts, the man was arrested.

The criminal proceedings are currently in the preliminary investigation phase, therefore the presumption of not guilt of the suspect applies until the final sentence.
