Turin: Tunisian man suspected of jihadist terrorism held in pre-trial detention.

Turin, September 15, 2025 – As part of the activity to combat the jihadist terrorist phenomenon, la DIGOS of Turin and Central Investigative Unit of the Penitentiary Police, making use of the Regional Unit, with the coordination of the Central Directorate of the Prevention Police, have conducted a complex and detailed investigation activity in the prison environment, directed by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Turin, at the end of which the precautionary measure of prison detention for a Tunisian citizen, 1940s, for participation in the jihadist terrorist organization.

THEOperation 'Shaytan' (شيطان) has allowed us to acquire elements on the participation in the terrorist organisation of the suspect – who lived in Italy for over 10 years under a fictitious name – as it emerged that he met theAl Qaeda organization, idolizing and following the teachings of Osama Bin Laden, as well as participating in Tunisia in theterrorist organization Ansar al-Sharia.

During the period of detention several of his stories have been recorded, interspersed with nasheed songs typical of Islamic propaganda, as well as stories, even of a mystical nature and quotes about God's will, to to convince the foreigners, who from time to time shared the detention room, to choose the path of Jihad, also leveraging Westerners' lack of respect for the Islamic religion and the glorification of attacks carried out by the Islamic State on European soil.

It also emerged that his alleged plan to take up arms to honor Islam, considering the Sharia the only law to be applied, through martyrdom.

Regarding the man's membership in jihadist terrorist organizations, it emerged from the investigation that he would have been ready to carry out an attack once he is released from prison, dying in the name of Islam, raising the flag of Islam.
