From March 21st to 30th, at Trento makes Consciousness, the first scientific festival entirely organized by students of the University of Trento.

Come to his seventh edition, the Festival continues to grow, consolidating itself as an unmissable event for those who want approach the world of science in an accessible, innovative and engaging way.

Born in 2018 from the collaboration between UNITIN, the main body representing students at the University of Trento, and OWL – Open Wet Lab, an association founded at the CIBIO Department to promote scientific dissemination with a focus on biotechnology, the Festival stands out for its mission: making science accessible to all, bridging the gap between the academic community and citizens.

As our motto says: “Co.Scienza is connecting young people, cities and science. It is letting everyone have the opportunity to become 'aware' of science”.

In line with this vision, this year's programme is further enriched with a variety of formats that go beyond the classic popular conferences: the public will be able to participate in interactive workshops, guided tours, film clubs, theatre performances and live concerts.

A news of this edition is the introduction of several “challenge levels” for each event, offering the public a dynamic and participatory experience.

Furthermore, the Festival avails itself of the collaboration of prestigious entities in the Trentino area, including Trentino Innovation Hub, Science Museum Muse, PlasticFree e Glow.

Since its inception, Consciousness hosted experts of national and international importance, addressing topics ranging from medicine to artificial intelligence, from physics to climate change denial, with the aim of stimulating debate and scientific curiosity.

Among guests from past editions prominent personalities such as the science communicator appear Adrian Fartade, the philosopher of science Robert Mercadini, the astronaut Paul Nespoli, the chemist Roger Rollini and the molecular biologist Agnes Hill, along with many other authoritative voices in various fields of science.

Among guests not to be missed of this edition:

  • Eleonora Scarcello, a neurotoxicology researcher at the Leibniz Research Institute in Düsseldorf, where she studies the impact of air pollution on neurodegenerative diseases. A science communicator and author of the book “Molecole Assassine,” she will be the protagonist of a conference dedicated to the dark side of lethal substances.
  • Sarah Groblechner, designer and content creator specializing in designing effective presentations. Through her teaching and collaborations with companies, she helps professionals and students improve visual communication by combining typography, color and storytelling.
  • Federico Benuzzi, physicist and popularizer known as “the juggler of science”. In his shows he combines the art of juggling with scientific popularization, making complex concepts accessible through a unique combination of entertainment and learning.
  • Luke Roman, known as “The Atom Lawyer,” is a science communicator specializing in nuclear energy. Through conferences and publications, he promotes evidence-based understanding of nuclear power.
  • Mary Woods, mathematician and science communicator, collaborates with Geopop, a platform dedicated to the dissemination of scientific and cultural content. Through articles and videos, she makes science accessible to the general public, dealing with current issues and scientific curiosities.

And many other names to discover and get to know together during the festival days.

A distinctive element of Consciousness is the constant commitment to a balanced representation of voices and perspectives. The Festival enhances the diversity and guarantees the presence of prominent speakers in each edition, offering the public a broad and inclusive scientific panorama.

Furthermore, one of the most anticipated events of the Festival will be the return of “A Night at the Muse”, an event which, after the success of the last edition, will once again offer the public the opportunity to experience the Trento Science Museum in an unprecedented way.

Between workshops, guided tours, games and contests, the experience will culminate with the possibility of spend the night inside the museum, surrounded by animals and dinosaurs. A unique experience, suitable for all ages, that combines science, fun and conviviality.

All other events of the festival are free, as our goal is to spread scientific thought as much as possible and to allow everyone to have the opportunity to become aware of the topics we deal with.

Faithful to its goal of bringing science out of the university classrooms and into the daily life of the city, the Festival will enliven different locations of Trento, including the Bookish, HarpoLab and important theatres such as the Cuminetti Theater, Saint Mark and Sanbapolis.

Even this year, Consciousness fits into the lively cultural context of Trento, European Capital of Volunteering 2024, demonstrating how the commitment and passion of young university students can give life to an innovative dialogue between research, culture and citizenship.

Consciousness It is a festival supported by the University of Trento, Opera Universitaria, the Trentino Alto-Adige Region, the Caritro Foundation, the Municipality of Trento and Youth Policies, and has been awarded the high patronage of the European Parliament.
