Trento: one million euros from the Sport and Suburbs 2024 fund to redevelop the Piedicastello-Vela sports center

The Department for Sport at the Presidency of the Council of Ministers has approved funding for the renovation project of the sports center in Piedicastello-Vela for an amount of one million euros as part of the “Sport and Suburbs 2024” call.

The executive project, created by Asis and shared with the Municipal Council, specifically includes the replacement of the football pitch, which will be made of synthetic grass to allow for greater use. Some ancillary works will also be carried out, including the reconstruction of the drainage system and the irrigation system; the replacement of the external fences (also to adapt the overall dimensions of the field) and the lighting system (from halogen to LED lights, with a consequent energy saving, both for the field and for the gym); the construction of a reinforced concrete grandstand, to replace the existing one in galvanized steel; the moving of the benches to comply with regulations; the creation of a new space to be used for equipment storage; the complete reconstruction of the wooden flooring of the gym and finally the renewal of the basic equipment of the volleyball and soccer fields. The interventions will improve and redevelop the structure available for the practice of multiple competitive sports disciplines (football, basketball, volleyball, handball, etc.), an aspect rewarded with a higher score according to the criteria indicated in the tender.

The total amount for the works is estimated at 1 million and 805.200: in addition to the million euros of contribution requested and granted (the maximum that can be financed for Municipalities between 100 thousand and 300 thousand inhabitants), 805.200 euros are expected as a co-participation fee, an amount already financed by the City Council (671 thousand euros for the replacement of the football pitch and 134.200 for the resurfacing of the gymnasium floor).

At the end of March, the Sport e Salute company will take care of the preliminary investigation phase aimed at signing the agreement. Before the signing, the procedure for awarding the works cannot be started, even if the Municipality has asked to anticipate the start times of the tender in order to take advantage of the suspension of sports activities in the summer, identifying the contractor in the previous months. This would allow the completion of the interventions within the deadlines set for the opening of the 2025/2026 sports season and above all before the start of the school year, as the system undergoing the intervention is also used by schools.

The purpose of the call is to improve the environmental context, social inclusion and urban safety. The intervention will redevelop a sports facility located in a more peripheral and less frequented area compared to other areas of the city, with a limited offer of meeting spaces and commercial establishments, to the benefit of a better use of the facility throughout the year and consequently of a greater social inclusion that the Administration, through Asis, will undertake to promote in the assignment of sports spaces.
