Trento: new park in Piazza Centra, a play and aggregation area for children and teenagers.
Following the construction of the underground appurtenant car park in Piazza Centa, in Trento, it is necessary to resurface the park. In agreement with the District theParks and Gardens office has instructed the architect Roberta Di Filippo to carry out a project to offer to children and adolescents of the surrounding areas (San Martino and Cristo Re above all) an inclusive play and aggregation area completely renovated, with particularly attractive play structures. Added to this is another central element for its value as historical memory: it is the surface enhancement of the Austro-Hungarian swimming pool, measuring 45 by 20 metres, discovered during excavations.
Built in 1870, it was fed by the canals that flowed into the river and was mainly used by the military units present in this part of the city at the end of the nineteenth century. The artefact will be valorised with colored prefabricated furnishing elements which will mainly serve as seating. In a central position in the garden, this perimeter will enclose the play area for the little ones where they will be placed new types of games to stimulate imagination and socialization: a large blue butterfly for climbing, a pentagonal swing for swinging together arranged in a circle (also with seat included), a floor-level trampoline also suitable for wheelchairs, and finally the classic spring games, distributed over a blue anti-trauma rubber surface to recall the water of the ancient swimming pool. The other half of the "pool" will be left as lawn and will host the large existing tree.
Here other wooden balance games and a round wooden platform for yoga practice or small shows will be installed. They will be placed on the north-east side of the garden, the least busy games for the older ones: the equipment for practicing calisthenics, composed of a sequence of shoulder rests, poles and bars to perform a workout in total safety and finally a basket positioned on a paved area of approximately 10 by 10 metres. In the south-west area the ping-pong will be relocated. This central relocation of the play area is accompanied by a partial redesign of the paths that will border the central play area, creating connections with the four main entrances existing at the corners. The benches and street lamps will be relocated according to the new design of the driveways. The dog area will be expanded in the south-east area – around the existing Set cabin – with the relocation of two drinking fountains. The cost of the surgery amounts to 260 thousand euros.
