Brindisi, border controls: one arrest, three reports and several seizures carried out

Over the past week, the State Police has carried out extensive checks aimed at combating illegal immigration, drug, weapons and explosives trafficking and the crimes of illegal entry with false documentation and receiving stolen vehicles. The activities have led to the arrest of a Greek citizen, the reporting of three people and the seizure of a car, a false document and numerous rounds of ammunition.

Over the past week, the State Police has implemented extensive checks at the port in order to intensify the fight against illegal immigration, drug, arms and explosives trafficking and the crimes of illegal entry with false documentation and receiving stolen vehicles. The increase in preventive controls and information-investigative activity on passengers and vehicles transiting both within the Schengen and Extra-Schengen areas, carried out by agents of the Border Police Office, have allowed the arrest of a Greek citizen, the reporting at liberty of three people and the seizure of a car, a false document and numerous rounds of ammunition.

In particular, a 45-year-old Greek citizen was arrested as the recipient of an execution order for imprisonment in connection with the smuggling of foreign manufactured tobacco, issued by the Court of Naples in February 2019, having to serve a sentence of 1 year, 3 months and 29 days of imprisonment, in addition to the payment of a pecuniary penalty of a fine of €23.314.000,00. The same, disembarked from the ship coming from Greece, was associated with the local prison and immediately placed at the disposal of the competent authorities for the initiation of the ritual procedures.

A 20-year-old Romanian citizen was reported at liberty for possession and manufacturing of false identification documents valid for expatriation. In this circumstance, the EU citizen from Greece was subjected to an identity document check and showed the officers a document that lacked the anti-counterfeiting features of genuine identity cards. In fact the blank document was found to have been stolen in Romania and was therefore seized.

A 26-year-old Turkish citizen, legally resident in Germany, was reported at liberty for the crime of receiving stolen goods. The same was driving a high-powered car and attempted to board the vessel headed to Igoumenitsa. From the check of the chassis and license plate in the databases the car was found to be wantedThe car was seized for subsequent return to the rightful owner.

For last, a 33 year old Albanian citizen was reported at liberty for possession of hunting ammunition without having reported it to the authorities, by concealing 32 cartridges of various calibres and weights inside an armoured "gun cabinet" type cabinet, with the intent of transporting the explosive material to a non-Schengen country (Albania)The same person showed up at the x-ray security checkpoint on departure with some luggage including the safe, which was confiscated by the officers in charge.
