Brindisi, they pretend to be employees of the electricity company and steal jewelry from an elderly woman: three people arrested

During the evening of last July 11, 2024 a Taranto and Carosino (Taranto), the Carabinieri of the Ceglie Messapica Station (Brindisi) have executed a precautionary order, issued by the GIP of the Court of Brindisi against three people, as part of an investigation coordinated by the Public Prosecutor's Office of Brindisi. In particular, the aforementioned GIP applied precautionary custody in prison against the three suspects, to whom the contribution of people is charged in the crime of "aggravated theft".

It is highlighted in the precautionary measure, At the state, the existence of serious evidence against the suspects, because they were held responsible for the aggravated theft occurred in Ceglie on April 12, 2024. In detail, the suspects, after having reached Ceglie Messapica on board a vehicle, they would introduce themselves at the home of an elderly lady, qualifying as employees of an electricity supply company, stating of having to carry out a check on the electricity meter, and then they took possession of some jewels that the victim kept in the drawer of the bedside table in the bedroom.

While a suspect entered the house first e, through the aforementioned stratagem, he entertained the offended person inside his kitchen (to view the meter and bills), the attendant, getting out of the vehicle, entered the house and went to the bedroom where he removed the jewels, and the third alleged accomplice remained outside the house to warn others of the possible arrival of guests or relatives of the offended person; immediately after, the latter reached the first suspect, posing as his colleague and urging him to complete the necessary checks, then leaving the apartment together with the other suspects.

The evidence collected by the military of the Ceglie Messapica station, who carried out the investigations, consisted of:

analysis, viewing and comparison of the acquired images from the video surveillance systems of the areas surrounding the crime event;
analysis of the telephone records of the suspects;
analysis of physical features described by the offended person;
photographic identification of the aforementioned.

After the ritual formalities, at the disposal of the Judicial Authority, two suspects were taken to the Taranto prison while the other he will remain imprisoned in the same prison in which he was already detained for another reason.

After once the precautionary order has been executed, the warrant interrogations of the suspects will take place, who will be able to defend themselves and offer their possible version of the facts.
