Taranto, simulates a theft to illegally sell weapons he owns. Arrested by the State Police

The State Police executed a custody order in prison issued by the GIP at the Court of Taranto, at the request of the Taranto Prosecutor's Office, against a 29-year-old of Romanian origin, presumed responsible for the crime of illegally and unlicensed transfer of weapons and ammunition to other individuals.

The investigations carried out by the Flying Squad, under the constant coordination of the Taranto Public Prosecutor's Office, They began last year following the arrest by the Taranto Carabinieri of a 36-year-old from Taranto who was found in possession of some weapons reported stolen by the young Romanian.

Specifically, at the beginning of February last year, the Hawks of the Flying Squad had carried out, at the home of the 29-year-old, an administrative check of the legally held weapons, having become suspicious of the fact that a nurse (the profession of the suspect) had, albeit legitimately, bought a considerable number of weapons in the space of a few months.

When the police arrived at the 29-year-old's home, his family informed them that the young man was out of the region and that they could not show them the weapons stored inside two regularly locked safes because he had the keys.

Taranto, simula un furto per vendere illegalmente armi da lui detenute. Arrestato dalla Polizia di Stato

Despite having assured him by telephone that he would show up at the police station as soon as possible, late in the evening, his family reported the theft of the two safes containing the weapons.
Thanks to the video surveillance cameras positioned in the area, the investigators collected useful clues to reconstruct the alleged dynamics of the facts: after the home check, the relatives of the 29-year-old went to the Emergency Room of the Santissima Annunziata Hospital for a presumed illness of the mother. During their absence, two well-disguised individuals entered the building and left shortly after carrying on their shoulders the two safes containing the weapons.

In the following days, the 29-year-old filed a complaint for the theft of the weapons he owned: 11 pistols, two revolvers and a rifle. The purchases had been made by the 29-year-old in various gun shops in the area.
The whole affair had raised more than a few doubts among investigators, leading them to hypothesize that the theft was all a set-up with the sole purpose of illegally placing the weapons reported stolen on the black market.
Subsequently, the Carabinieri of Modugno, following a home and personal search, found two of the weapons reported stolen by the Romanian and illegally held, while the Carabinieri of Taranto had found three other pistols that were part of the batch of weapons reported stolen.

From a complex and detailed investigation, it is assumed that the person arrested by the military had frequented the Romanian in the past, who had confided in him a method to make money quickly: regularly buying weapons and then reselling them on the black market at a much higher price, simulating their theft.
Since the risk of repetition cannot be excluded and given the high criminal profile of the person under investigation, the GIP of Taranto, accepting the proposal of the Taranto Public Prosecutor's Office, he considered that the only precautionary measure appropriate to the case was the precautionary measure of detention in prison of the 29-year-old.
