Taranto: Off-duty policeman helps accident victim but is attacked, 30-year-old Taranto resident reported

The State Police reported a 30-year-old from Taranto because he is considered presumed responsible for the crimes of resisting, insulting a public official and causing injury.

A police officer from the Taranto Police Headquarters, off duty, while returning home along the state road that leads from the capital to San Giorgio Jonico, found himself faced with an overturned car on the roadway. He immediately got out of his car and helped the driver who was still inside the vehicle.

Extracted from the car, still in a state of confusion, the man, listening to the call for an ambulance to 118 from his rescuer who identified himself as a policeman, appeared annoyed and without any particular reason, he cursed at the person who had just saved him. An attitude that continued a few minutes later towards the personnel of the Highway Police Section who had arrived at the scene of the accident in the meantime.

The man, probably under the influence of drugs, allegedly became aggressive and violent, pushing the police officers who intervened.

After bringing him back to reason, the 30-year-old was assisted by 118 paramedics who accompanied him to SS. Annunziata for further clinical tests.

The documents were forwarded to the competent authorities and the man was reported at liberty. He was also reported to the Judicial Authority by the Carabinieri, competent for the territory, because he was considered presumed responsible for driving under the influence of psycho-physical alteration after having taken narcotic and alcoholic substances.
