Taranto: A Nigerian man assaults and attempts to rape a woman on Via Capecelatro and is arrested by the State Police.

A man of , citizen of Nigerian origins, was arrested by the State Police on charges of attempted sexual assaultThe episode occurred in Capecelatro Street, where officers from the Flying Squad intervened following a report from a woman who was on the street in a clearly agitated state and who reported having been the victim of a sexual assault.

Upon arrival at the scene, the police identified the alleged victim, a woman of 32 years of Romanian nationality, and a man who was still in the immediate vicinity and appeared visibly agitated. The latter was later identified as the 40-year-old who was then arrested.

The victim's story and the officers' intervention

According to what the woman reported to the intervening officers, the man had invited into his apartment with the excuse of offering her foodOnce inside the house, however, the situation quickly degenerated. The 32-year-old declared that the man had grabbed forcefully by the arm, then throw her on the bed against her will, implying intentions that the woman immediately perceived as dangerous.

After a brief scuffle, the victim would have managed to to wriggle free, fleeing from the apartment and reaching the street. Here, with the help of some residents of the condominium, it was possible to contact the State Police promptly.

The testimonies and the inspection of the house

The officers also collected the testimonies from some of the building's tenants, who confirmed that they saw the woman fleeing in an evident state of fear and that they provided help by calling the police. Subsequently, the police carried out a inspection inside the apartment man.

Inside the house they were found elements considered compatible with the story provided by the alleged victim, considered by investigators to be important evidence to support the complaint.
