Siracusa: First Science Festival. Meetings and activities to celebrate the genius of Archimedes during the Einaudi Pi Greco Day 2025

Departs Thursday morning, 13 March, with the conference on Archimedean machines of the eng. Umberto DiMarco, former company manager and expert, passionate and devotee of the Syracusan genius, and ends saturday morning, 15 March, with a meeting on theartificial intelligence, held by the rector of the Kore University of Enna, prof. Paul Scollo, and by the President of the Sicilian College of Philosophy, prof. Elio Capuccio, First Science Festival inserted inside the sixth edition ofEinaudi Pi Day 2025.
The Festival, which aims to celebrate the genius of Archimedes, to focus attention on the STEM disciplines scientific culture, also includes a meeting on Thursday afternoon, March 13, with engineer Giuseppe Scalora who will describe the redevelopment project of Largo Aretusa and the activities and games on Friday morning, March 14, on the island of Ortigia.
Organized byLuigi Einaudi Higher Education Institute, in collaboration with the Municipality of SIRACUSA, Department of Education, and the patronage of the association “Noi Albergatori” and the sports shop “Play Sport”, the first edition of the Science Festival will involve citizens, Einaudi students and students from the secondary and high schools of Syracuse.
“An important event for our city”, underlines the Headmistress of Einaudi, Prof.ssa Teresella Celesti and Councilor for Education of the Municipality of Syracuse, “that with the many activities planned in This first edition of the Science Festival wishes to remember the genius Archimedes in his hometown".
In detail, Thursday morning, 13 March, from 9.00 hours the conference by the engineer is scheduled at the Einaudi auditorium. Umberto DiMarco by Title "Archimedes' machines". This meeting will be attended by third and fourth year students from all secondary schools.
Thursday afternoon, 13 March, from 16.30 hours at Largo Aretusa in Ortigia, the engineer will speak. Joseph Scalora which will describe the project carried out at Largo Aretusa with a speech entitled "Syracuse through the eyes of Archimedes", and the participation of citizens and students from all schools.
Friday morning, 14 March, 9.00 - 13.00 in Piazza Duomo, Piazza Minerva, Piazzale Aretusa, Via Picherali, Piazzetta San Rocco, Lungomare Alfeo the organisers' activities and initiatives connected to the figure of Archimedes and to the scientific personality chosen for 2025: James clerk maxwell. Treasure hunt, photography contest, short races, Contest Exhibition, final party of the event.
The students of the three-year classes of Einaudi and the students of the second classes of the Higher Institutes of First Degree.
We will start in Piazza Duomo with the "Maxwell's Treasure Hunt" in the streets of Ortigia with about 30 teams of students, each of which will have the name of a famous scientist, who in a set time of 3 hours and 14 minutes will have to solve the "puzzles" that can be viewed in the 14 stations located along a 3,14 km route inside Ortigia.
By answering questions on mathematics, physics, Italian and science placed along the path, students will be able to get hold of tiles that will be used to complete the Archimedean “stomachion”.
The teams will also be involved in the photographic contest during which students will take photos of some details of the monuments present in Ortigia.
In Piazza Minerva, instead, at the same time, the following events will take place: relays of 4×314 meters and the 314 meter sprint.
At the end of the day all the students will meet at Largo Aretusa for the party and final flash mob. A similar activity is also replicated within the Institute, involving all the students of the two-year period.
Finally, Saturday morning, 15 March, from 10.00 hours the conference will be held in the Salone Borsellino of Palazzo Vermexio (Piazza Duomo, Ortigia) with speeches by the rector of the Kore University of Enna, prof. Paul Scollo, Entitled "Artificial Intelligence in Medicine", and of the President of the Sicilian College of Philosophy, prof. Elio Cappuccio, Entitled "Resources and limits of artificial intelligence: new challenges for ethics".
Citizens and a representation of teachers from all schools will be present.
