CEV: Vero Volley and Perugia directly to the quarterfinals, Allianz Milano in the playoffs

Zawiercie-Allianz Milano | Real Volley Monza-Giesen | Perugia-Ankara

CEV: Vero Volley and Perugia directly to the quarterfinals, Allianz Milano to the playoffs.

In the last round of the group stage of the Champions League Volleyball, Vero Volley and Perugia win, gaining direct passage to the quarterfinals. Instead, a bitter defeat arrives for Allianz Milano which will have to go through the playoffs.

Zawiercie-Allianz Milano

The first set was very balanced and played point by point, mainly from 9 meters between errors and aces. However, the Poles prevailed, winning it with a partial score of 25-22. The second set, unlike the first, was played much better by Zawiercie. The hosts took the lead 2-0 with a partial score of 25-21, conquering first place in the group and ensuring direct passage to the quarterfinals (Milano should have won 1-3/2-3 to avoid the playoffs). In the third set the Poles closed the match with a partial score of 25-19. The MVP of the match was awarded to the Polish opposite hitter Karol Butryn.

Coach Piazza's team does not get the desired result and will have to go through the playoffs to reach the quarterfinals.

True Volley Monza-Giesen

Even in Monza the first set is played point by point and also in this case, the guests win with a partial score of 23-25. In the second set Vero Volley grows and thanks also to the great performance of 2006 Diego Frascio, evens the score with a partial score of 25-22. In the third set Eccheli's team completes the comeback and takes the lead 2-1 with a partial score of 25-19. The fourth set seems one-way for the home team but in the final stages they risk being overtaken, but they resist and win it with a partial score of 25-22 closing the match 3-1. The MVP of the match is Diego Frascio with 14 points.

Vero Volley Monza had to win and they did, thus securing first place in the group and direct passage to the quarterfinals.

Perugia-Halkbank Ankara

The first set was very hard fought and won by Ankara with a 26-28 advantage, taking the first set of the competition from Perugia (who had won them all so far). Giannelli and his teammates didn't give up and won the second set with a clear partial score of 25-14.

In the third set Perugia continues to dominate and takes a 2-1 lead with a partial score of 25-15. In the fourth set Ankara ties the score with a partial score of 18-25 and takes the match to a tie-break. The tie-break is won by the Turks 12-15 who with their victory secure the playoffs.

A 5-set defeat that doesn't weigh on Perugia, who has already qualified for the quarter-finals.
