Vicenza: Giro del Veneto, today the emotion of great cycling on stage
The emotion of great cycling returns to the stage in the iconic climb of Monte Berico, which will be the protagonist today, October 16th and finish line of the Giro del Veneto, a spectacular event that made history. They will be 160 professionals at the start; among the members there are big names such as Xandro Meurisse (2021 winner), Davide formolo, Nairo Quintana, Michael Matthews, Marc Hirschi, Alessandro Covi, but also the people of Vicenza Filippo Zana, Davide De Pretto, Francesco Busatto.
In the prestigious race that saw winners girardengo, Coppi, From Vlaeminck, saroni, Moser, Argentine, rebellin e Philip Pozzato who is currently in charge of the organization, last year the French won Dorian Godon, who anticipated the Norwegian in the explosive final of Monte Berico Tobias Halland Johannessen and the Belgian Florian Vermeersch.
Today the route of the 87th edition of the Giro will unfold for 173 kilometers from Verona to Vicenza, touching the most exciting points among UNESCO heritage landscapes.
“It is the Venetian race that more than any other has inspired Italian cycling – declared the sports councillor on the eve of the event Leone Zilio -, and Vicenza is the protagonist: after five laps of a 15.1 km long city circuit (with entry at around 14.40:7,1 p.m. in Sant'Agostino, then along Viale Fusinato and Viale X Giugno), there will be the final sprint towards the sanctuary of Monte Berico, which measures exactly one kilometre with an average gradient of 5.000%. The arrival will be halfway up the climb, so as to give sprinters as well as climbers a chance of victory. The city is ready once again to welcome this great sporting event, together with thousands of fans (last year there were over XNUMX on the Vicenza circuit alone) who, like last year, will colour the race route and in particular the climb up Monte Berico».
Born in 1909, the Giro del Veneto is one of the oldest races in the entire Italian calendar and it is no coincidence that so many greats of this sport have left their indelible mark. After disappearing from the cycling calendars for 8 years, PP Sport Events and Filippo Pozzato have revived it, innovating its organization and spirit, and creating a sponsor village with stands and products.
The Giro del Veneto will be covered by the Live on Rai2 from 15pm. Arrival is expected shortly after 16.10pm, about 16.45 awards ceremony at Monte Berico.
Roads and local transport – Traffic slowdowns will be possible from 13pm
From the 8 17 the Do not stop along the entire route affected by the passage of cyclists (viale S. Agostino, via Vaccari, via Maganza, viale Fusinato, viale Dante, viale X Giugno, from the “Cristo” to the municipal border) and in via Petrarca to allow two-way traffic for vehicles following the race.
From 13pm until the end of the race, around 17pm, Sara closed to traffic the entire route of the race: Viale del Lavoro and Viale dell'Industria at the intersection with Viale Sant'Agostino, Via Ferretto de Ferreti at the intersection with Via Vaccari and Viale Verona, Viale Fusinato at the intersection with Viale Dieci Giugno and Strada della Commenda, at the intersection with Viale Riviera Berica and Via Sicilia.
Between one race lap and the next, after the last cyclist has passed, residents of the Ferrovieri neighborhood will be able to exit from Via Toti towards Via Vaccari, Via Rossi, Via De' Ferreti, Viale Verona, depending on the progress of the race.

The schools –
The IC1 institutes (the Marco Polo nursery school, the Loschi and Arnaldi primary schools, the branch of the Maffei secondary school in via Carta) lessons will end at 12.30 to allow families to pass along the routes involved in the race before they are closed to allow cyclists to pass.
The timetables of the Tretti and Molino nursery schools and the Nido Ferrovieri in via Campesani will not change, but families can decide independently to leave early.
