Verona: Saturday 21 September the Festa dello Sport returns to the 2nd District. A moment of sharing where sports associations can show off.

Many performances, demonstrations and free trials of the various sports disciplines of the district.
Starting today, Tuesday 17 September, for four weeks, the Walking Groups are back, to encourage outdoor activities.

Movement first. Because it is good for physical and mental health, helping everyone to live and feel better. It returns on Saturday 21 September, from 15 to 18.30:25 pm, in the San Martino Area, in via Villa, XNUMX – near the Santini swimming pools – the Sports Festival, initiative organized by the 2th district in collaboration with the Italian Union of Sports for All UISP Verona and various sports clubs in the area.

The event, in addition to being a moment of sharing, is an opportunity for associations to present and make known, especially to the younger ones, the different sports disciplines, and to give enthusiasts, or who wants to start playing sports, to find the one best suited to their abilities.

Also from Tuesday 17th September, for four weeks, the Walking Groups will restart in the 2nd District, promoted by the Administration to encourage citizens to exercise outdoors and in company in the various city districts. The appointment is for every Tuesday and Thursday at 18pm starting from the Uisp headquarters – Italian Union of Sports for All, in via Villa 25, near the Santini swimming pools.

A format that worked and is now being replicated in its autumn version: at least one hour of walking led by a walking leader through ever-changing routes between neighborhoods. All to promote physical and mental well-being, the prevention of stress and anxiety and contribute to social health through being together. All citizens can participate in the walking groups, the activity is free and registration is not required.

“Thanks to the 2nd District for the numerous activities carried out in favor of the movement and health of citizens – underlines the Health Councillor Elisa La Paglia –. Creating different opportunities to increase the movement of all citizens is a commitment that we are carrying forward throughout the city, with the desire to strengthen the offer in all neighborhoods”.

“Being part of the Healthy Cities Network means implementing initiatives in favor of health, understood as physical, mental and social well-being – specifies the municipal councilor and contact person for the Healthy Cities project Annamaria Molino –. Physical activity, together with proper nutrition and quitting smoking, are the three cornerstones for living a long and healthy life, preventing chronic diseases. Furthermore, Sport has the power to unite people, break down barriers and create community. According to 2023 data from the Permanent Observatory on Sport, more than a third of the Italian population is sedentary, with a strong gap between North and South. We must not forget that everyone, even with small steps, can contribute to building a strong and inclusive sports culture”.

The disciplines to be practiced will be among the most diverse, from football to volleyball, but also rugby, athletics. Participants will be given a card with stamps regarding the various activities practiced. Those who complete the test of at least six disciplines will receive the official medal of the event as a gift.

The Sports Festival is part of the activities of the Italian WHO Network – Healthy Cities and in the European Week of Sport, scheduled every year from 23 to 30 September and launched by the European Commission in 2015 to promote sport, healthy and active lifestyles and consequently the physical and mental well-being of citizens of the European Community.

The initiative was presented this morning in the Arazzi room. The councilor of the 2nd District and coordinator of the Sports Commission Federico Centomo and the President of UISP Verona Simone Picelli spoke.

“We try to involve neighborhoods and sports clubs to make families aware of the opportunities available as much as possible and to increase the culture of sports among the younger ones and not only – explains Federico Centomo –. I thank all the companies that have made themselves available and that will try to enliven this moment of celebration for the citizens”.
