Trieste: 29th edition of the “Trofeo Don Marzari”. The finals will be played on Saturday 31 August in Piazza Sant'Antonio.
This morning (Thursday 29 August) in Piazza Sant'Antonio the press conference was presented 29th edition of the “Trofeo Don Marzari”, the finals of which will be played on Saturday 31 August in the same Sant'Antonio square.
Present were the councilors Elisa Lodi (Property and Sports Policies) and Everest Bertoli (Financial Policies); the representatives of Azzurra Basket RdR Trieste Claudio Colusso (president), Franco Cumbat (sports director) and Stefania Sperzagni (on behalf of the Tigrotte).
Councillor Elisa Lodi declared: "I thank the organizers on behalf of the Municipal Administration, which always welcomes proposals of this kind. The Don Marzari Trophy consolidates itself year after year in the promotion of basketball, including women's basketball, offering young people from Trieste the opportunity to compete with athletes from other clubs. It is a moment of high training but also of building friendship relationships, which this year also inaugurates a rich calendar of sporting events spread over the months of September and October”.
The Municipality of Trieste gives its patronage to the International Minibasket Tournament PSG Circuit “Trofeo Don Marzari”, organized by Azzurra Basket RdR Trieste and reserved for the Beginners category (born in 2013-'14), in memory of Don Edoardo Marzari (Capodistria, 1905 – Trieste, 1973), among other things founder of the Opera Figli del Popolo to help needy children.
14 teams are taking part, who are competing on the fields of the Dario Ferro seaside resort of Punta Sottile and the Military Logistics Base of Lazzaretto.
At local level the Azzurra RdR, the Tigrotte, the Tigrotti, the Arcobaleno, the Polet, the Basketrieste and the Interclub Muggia are present.
From outside, the children of Varese Basketball, Porto Sant'Elpidio, Hub del Sempione Gallarate, Scuola MB Arcobaleno Porto San Giorgio, Petrarca Padova, Codroipo and Scuola Minibasket l'Aquila arrived.
The PSG Circuit promotes minibasketball throughout the country giving the young players the opportunity to be hosted by the families of the opponents who live in the cities where the sports competitions take place. In some cases, the families have chosen to accompany their children to Trieste for the Tournament and take a vacation. In addition to playing basketball, children these days have the opportunity to go to the seaside and visit Trieste: the Don Marzari Trophy is therefore not only an opportunity for sports promotion but also for social, cultural and touristic ones.
The matches began yesterday (Wednesday 28 August) and will conclude on Saturday 31 August with the spectacular finals in Piazza Sant'Antonio, a stone's throw from the Grand Canal.
