Federica Brignone has just won gold in the giant slalom at the Alpine World Ski Championships in Saalbach, dominating both heats and coming in first by 90 hundredths of a second over New Zealander Alice Robinson; bronze medal for American Paula Moltzan.

A historic medal for Federica Brignone who at 34 years old won the world gold in the giant slalom after 28 years; the last to win it was Deborah Compagnoni in 1997 in Sestriere.
The Italian dominated the race with two flawless heats, finishing with an overall time of 2:22.71, beating New Zealand's Alice Robinson, the silver medalist, by 90 hundredths of a second. The bronze went to American Paula Moltzan, who beat Norwegian Thea Louise Stjernesund by just one hundredth of a second.
This victory represents the second gold medal for Italy at these World Championships after the one won in the mixed team competition.
This afternoon's medal is the crowning achievement of a fantastic season for Federico Brignone, who before the World Championships had already obtained five victories in three different disciplines: one in the Super G, two in the giant slalom and two in the downhill.
Her ability to adapt to multiple disciplines makes her one of the most complete athletes and on Saturday she will be awaited by the slalom special, where performances have improved significantly in recent seasons.
