A 'Giant' Federica Brignone wins the third cup of the season in Sun Valley.
Federica Brignone wins her third seasonal cup in the Giant Slalom at Sun Valley, closing a dream season. The Italian skier had already won ten victories, five podiums, a world gold in the giant slalom and a silver in the super-G.
A dream Federica Brignone
In the setting of Sun Valley, Federico Brignone wrote another unforgettable page of her career. The Italian won the third cup of the season, closing the circle after having already dominated the overall and downhill standings. On the track named after Ernest Hemingway, Federica once again demonstrated why she is one of the greats of world skiing. Brignone arrived at this race aware of a ranking situation that was anything but simple. Alice Robinson, her direct rival in the race for the Giant Slalom Cup, had a 20-point advantage. However, the New Zealander saw all chances of victory vanish in the first run, slipping and abandoning her dream in tears. Federica would have only needed to finish the race to secure the title, but she wanted to do more: she finished second, just 14 hundredths of a second behind winner Lara Gut-Behrami. The Italian skier thus achieved the 85th podium of her career, three points away from the historic record of Alberto Tomba.
Federica Brignone, a champion who, at 34 years old, has not yet finished surprising. And with Milano-Cortina 2026 that is approaching, the Italian skiing world can continue to dream.
