The Giro Handbike 2025 is preparing to offer unique emotions, confirming itself as one of the most prestigious events of Paralympic cycling in Italy and Europe. Now in its 15th edition, the Giro will start on March 30th from Reggio Calabria and will end on October 12th in Bari, crossing Italy with seven stages.

Lombardy Region: constant support for Paralympic sports

Lombardy region renews its support for the event, underlining the value of sport as a tool for personal and social growth. The undersecretary with responsibility for Sport and Youth, Federica Peaks, stressed: “Regione Lombardia has always been close to Paralympic sport and its extraordinary social value. The Giro Handbike is a symbol of resilience and competition, an event that enhances athletes and represents a concrete example of how sport can break down every barrier. Everyone must feel important and valuable with their differences. We are proud to support this event and to contribute to the dissemination of initiatives that promote and enhance sport for all”.

A commitment that is part of the broader project of promoting the Paralympic sport, also through the Memorandum of Understanding signed with the Italian Cycling Federation (FCI) and the Professional Cycling League.

A calendar full of news

The 2025 edition will see seven stages spectacular, four of which are unreleased. After the opening at Reggio Calabria, the Giro will touch Noventa di Piave (11 May), basiglio (June 1st), seregno (June 22), Monfalcone (13th of July), Pioltello (September 14) and will end in Bari on October 12. Since its inception in 2010, the competition has organized 109 stages in 78 municipalities in 14 regions, with an average of 143 athletes per edition, including 107 men and 36 women. During the presentation, the successes of the 2024 edition were also remembered, with athletes such as Mirko DeCortes, winner in the MH5 category, and Katia Aire, triumphant in the WH5, who were awarded prestigious prizes, including the diamond created by the master Lorenzo Tirelli. Furthermore, the Giro Handbike is distinguished by the assignment of the traditional jerseys: the pink one for the leader of the general classification, the red one for the best 'fast team', the white one for the most promising youngster and the black one, to reward the commitment and talent of the athletes.

The statements of the protagonists

Fabio Pennella, president of Solutions & Events Organisation (SEO), stressed the value of inclusion: "This departure from the South is particularly significant. The Giro Handbike is not just a sports competition, but a journey that unites Italy, from north to south, through the values ​​of sport and territorial promotion. I thank all the municipal administrations that have enthusiastically welcomed our event". The president of CONI, Giovanni Malago, praised the event as follows: “The Giro Handbike is an event that has entered the hearts of enthusiasts, an eloquent example of how Paralympic sport can promote fundamental values ​​and offer opportunities to many athletes. The success of this edition confirms the importance of the event on the international scene”. The Cordiano Dagnoni, president of the FCI, reiterated the Federation's support, highlighting how the Giro has become a point of reference for the Paralympic cycling movement: “The Giro Handbike reminds us how important it is to support sport for all. Over the years, this competition has become a reference for the entire movement, promoting the integration and growth of Paralympic cycling”.

“Supporting events like the Giro Handbike – concluded the undersecretary Picchi – means giving voice to a sports movement that represents an extraordinary testimony of strength and determination. Sport must be accessible to all and the Lombardy Region will continue to work to ensure ever greater opportunities for athletes”.

The appointment with the Giro Handbike 2025 is set for the competitions scheduled, from March 30 to October 12. The protagonists are high-level athletes ready to challenge each other in the name of spectacle and passion for Paralympic cycling.
