Italy-Germany 1-2

In the first half, the Azzurri needed just nine minutes to unlock the match. After a great move, Politano touched the center, anticipating Baumann's exit and Tonali scores for 1-0. In the 16th minute, Goretzka tries for Germany, but his header ends just over. In the 30th minute, Tonali shoots powerfully from distance, but this time Baumann responds. Two minutes later, the German goalkeeper again deflects Moise Kean's shot into a corner with a great save. In the 42nd minute, Amiri tries to equalize with a free kick, but his conclusion ends up high.

The Germans started off strong in the second half. Kimmich made a nice cross and the new arrival Kleindienst scores the 1-1, heading the ball all alone in the area. In the 67th minute, Kean kicks on the rebound from Tonali's assist, but the shot ends up over the crossbar. A minute later, Raspadori finds himself one-on-one with Baumann, but his low shot is blocked. In the 76th minute, Germany takes the lead; Goretzka heads in a corner kicked by Kimmich. Two minutes later, Italy immediately comes close to equalising, but Baumann miraculously puts the ball into the corner after a double deflection from close range. In the 85th minute, Maldini tries with a powerful shot from the edge, but once again the visiting goalkeeper saves. Ends 1-2.

For Spalletti's Italy, a good first half is not enough. The Azzurri, to reach the semifinals, are called upon to overturn the result in the return match, scheduled for Sunday, March 23 in Dortmund.
