Serie A: Inter beat Fiorentina and move to -1 from Napoli.
The 24th day of the championship ended with Inter's 2-1 victory over Fiorentina. The Nerazzurri won a crucial match to chase Napoli at the top of the table and prepare for the big match next Sunday against Juventus.
Inter-Fiorentina 2-1
In the first half, the Nerazzurri immediately had a chance and in the 1st minute they came close to taking the lead with a shot from Lautaro that grazed the post. In the 14th minute, Barella tried an overhead kick, but the ball ended up wide. Inter were dangerous again, this time with Carlos Augusto who in the 21st minute failed to hit the target following a corner. After three minutes, the Nerazzurri also hit the crossbar with a header from Lautaro. The home team deservedly took the lead thanks to an own goal from Pongracic in the 28th minute. Fiorentina non-existent until the 43rd minute, when Darmian touches it with his hand in the penalty area and gives the Viola a penalty; he steps up to the spot Mandrake which displaces Sommer and makes it 1-1.
Worth noting is the muscular problem for Thuram around the 30th minute which forced Inzaghi to bring on Arnautovic in his place.
In the second half it is precisely arnautovic to give the Nerazzurri the lead; the Austrian takes advantage of Carlos Augusto's cross and heads it to make it 2-1. In the 63rd minute Lautaro tries, but his header ends just wide. The guests never come close to equalising and Inter manage their lead until the final whistle. It ends 2-1 at San Siro.
Inzaghi's team responds to Thursday's defeat and does so with a great show of strength. Now the first place occupied by Napoli is one point away and the next day will see two big matches, decisive for the championship: Lazio-Napoli and Juventus-Inter.
Palladino's team did not repeat Thursday's match and struggled against a very solid Inter. The new signings had no impact and Kean never worried Sommer. Fiorentina remains in sixth place with 42 points, but the race for Europe remains open.
