Serie A: Atalanta lands on Verona, Milan wins at Empoli.
The first two games on Saturday ended with Atalanta's goleada on the Verona field by 0-5 and with Milan's victory by 0-2 on the Empoli field. Torino-Genoa will close this Saturday of Serie A.
Verona-Atalanta 0-5
In the first half, the first chance is for the guests with Ederson, but his shot ends up out. Verona tries in the 11th minute with a header from Sarr that doesn't worry Rui Patricio. In the 16th minute, the yellow and blues again, again with a header, this time it's Daniliuc who tests Rui Patricio. The show, or rather, the Retegui show, starts at minute 21; the Nerazzurri striker pushes the ball into the net after De Ketalaere hits the post for 0-1. Four minutes pass and Retegui makes it 0-2, beating Montipò on Djimsiti's assist. At 34' the new purchase of the Goddess, Posch, also tries, but Montipò rejects. After a few minutes it is Ederson to make it 0-3 Atalanta, scoring the goal after a personal run. At 44' again Retegui, the fastest to put the ball back into the net in the penalty area after a pinball, for the 0-4 and his personal hat-trick.
The second half begins as the first one ended; in the 56th minute De Roon puts the ball in the middle, where Mateo arrives again Retegui who concludes with a first intention; he scores the 0-5 with his poker and luckily for Verona he puts an end to his show. The hosts have several occasions for the consolation goal, but Rui Patricio is also having a good day and keeps the clean sheet. It ends 0-5 at Bentegodi.
In the post-match, mister Zanetti apologized for yet another poor showing at home. In front of their fans, Verona has obtained only one point in the last six games, with a partial of 18 goals conceded and only one scored. The yellow and blues remain at +3 on the relegation zone while waiting for the other results.
Gasperini's team today seemed like the one from the first leg, the one that can scare Napoli and Inter. Mateo Retegui decides to exaggerate and scores four goals to make up for the penalty he missed on the last day; luckily for Verona, he hadn't missed two.
Empoli-Milan 0-2
A very physical first half, with few chances and a slow pace due to the constant interruptions caused by the many fouls. For the Rossoneri, the only one to try is Joao Feliz in the 21st minute, but his low shot ends up wide. The first real (and only) goal opportunity is for the home team, with the ex of the match; Colombo does a great job in the area, taming the ball and unleashing a shot that hits the post.
At half time, Conceicao, not happy with his players, brings on Leao, Pulisic and the new arrival Gimenez.
In the second half, Milan immediately had a chance; Leao served a low pass into the penalty area to Gimenez, who was ready to tap in, but De Sciglio saved everything. In the 55th minute, Tomori received a second yellow card and left the Rossoneri with ten men. Numerical parity was restored in the 65th minute, when Marianucci was sent off for a reaction foul on Gimenez. The guests took advantage; Pulisic skipped past Cacace and crossed for Lion who heads the ball into the net for 0-1. Not even ten minutes have passed and Milan double their lead with the first goal by Gimenez in the red and black jersey. In the 82nd minute Joao Felix tries a carbon copy of the goal against Roma, but this time he misses with the lob in front of Vasquez. Before the end Empoli comes close to scoring with Konate, but his shot ends up just wide. It ends 0-2.
D'Aversa's team continues the dark period, remaining only +1 on the relegation zone while waiting for the other matches. A mistake by Marianucci wastes the opportunity to play the last half hour with an extra man.
Conceicao's team gets an important victory after not starting very well. The new signings have had an immediate impact and now Milan is ready to hunt down Lazio and Fiorentina, four points away.
