Former Inter Guarin: «I'm an alcoholic and I risked dying».

«I'm an alcoholic, one hundred percent. And I admit it. I am addicted to alcohol but on the mend". It is with these words that Fredy Guarin he opened up about his addiction problems in an interview with the Colombian magazine Week.

The former Inter midfielder, now 37, who played in nerazzurri between 2012 and 2016, he revealed: «The truth is that I let myself be distracted. I clung to alcohol, I made many mistakes, I made bad decisions and hurt many people, making my loved ones and my family feel bad.".

«I was close to death – he said Guarin - because I had no respect and limits, I let myself fall further and further into that abyss. I knocked on the gates of hell. I didn't measure the risks when drunk. They were painful moments. I have a terrible fear of two things: death and prison. I even got it tattooed on me. And instead, without knowing it, I was living in a prison condemned to death".

«Falcao, James Rodriguez, Quintero, Ospina, Cuadrado, Zanetti, Córdoba were close to me. They were there in those dark moments, they were available to help me. Others, without saying a word, disappeared. They weren't friends.".

A dark period, from which Guarin he hopes he's out, so much so that he wants to go back and play again: «I never officially retired. I want to return to playing at a professional level, my dream is to end my career with dignity".
