A historic day for Ligurian sport and the academic world. The Transparency Room of the Liguria Region officially presented theASD Unisport Genova, the first university football team in the region, ready to debut in the championship Third Category 2025/2026.
ASD Unisport Genova, an innovative project that connects students and the local community through football.
The project, conceived by a group of students from the University of Genoa, is the result of collaboration between University, Coni and Cus, with the aim of creating an organization capable of uniting sport, education, and culture, becoming a point of reference for the student community and the local area.
"Unisport Genova is an innovative project – underlined the regional councillor for Sport Simona Ferro - which combines sport, study, and education, offering students concrete opportunities for growth on and off the field. In this special year, in which Liguria is the European Region of Sport 2025, initiatives like this represent a virtuous example of how passion for sport and culture can complement and strengthen each other.
Great enthusiasm also in the words of the rector of the University of Genoa, Federico Delfino, who underlined the educational value of the initiative: "The creation of ASD Unisport Genova is a testament to the vitality and proactivity of our student community. It's not just the creation of a team, but a real skills laboratory, where young people can put into practice what they've learned during their studies. It's a concrete example of how sports can become a means of personal and professional growth, fostering the integration of theory and practice, between the classroom and the community.
One aspect that makes the project unique is its entirely student-runThe company will in fact be led by students of the degree course in Sports Policies, Governance and Information, who will handle every organizational aspect: from communications to administrative and financial management, including marketing and social media activities. The team will have its home field on Torbella, with the technical direction entrusted to Mr. Davide Sangiorgio, supported by a team of students committed not only to athletic training, but also to managing the collateral activities that make a sports club modern and dynamic.
With the birth of theASD Unisport Genova, Liguria writes a new page in the relationship between sports and university, aiming to promote sport as an educational and training tool. This is a challenge that looks to the future with enthusiasm and promises to become a model that can be replicated in other Italian academic settings.
