AC Milan vs. Como will be the first Serie A match abroad, having received the green light from UEFA.

The match between AC Milan and Como will go down in Italian football history. It will be the first Serie A match played abroad, with the venue being Optus Stadium in Perth, Australia. The match will be played on February 7 or 8, 2026, when San Siro will host the opening ceremony of the 2020 Winter Olympics. Milano-Cortina 2026.

Green light from UEFA

The decision was made official by Uefa, which granted the authorization “as an exception”, while reiterating its opposition to moving league matches outside of Italy. This position has been well-known for some time, but in this case, it has been granted an exemption due to specific circumstances.

For the Serie A This is an absolute novelty, which opens up unprecedented scenarios not only on a sporting level, but above all on an economic and commercial level. With the impossibility of using the Meazza stadium, the Milan took the opportunity to launch a global brand promotion project, also supported by Just like, an exceptional partner on this Australian trip.

More economical than sporty

In addition to the media impact, the operation represents a real economic success. The Australian organizers, in fact, have allocated approximately 12 million of euros to bring the game to Perth€4 million earmarked for the event and €8 million to be split between the two clubs and the Lega Serie A. This is a difficult figure for the clubs to ignore, as they see the initiative as a way to expand their fan base and consolidate Italian football's presence in an emerging sports market. UEFA President Alexander fereferin, while not hiding its reluctance to "delocalize" national championships, did not veto the move, thus allowing Serie A's temporary relocation to Australia. The Perth match will therefore be a historic one, a symbol of an increasingly globalized football, where sporting, economic, and image-related concerns are intertwined.

Economically, Milan and Como will both win, but on a sporting level, this path will not be viable.
