On Matchday 2 of the Europa League, Roma lost at home to Lille, and Bologna drew against Freiburg. The Giallorossi remain on three points and will face Viktoria Plzen at home in their next match. Italiano's team, however, earned their first point and will face Romanian side FCSB in their third match.

Roma-Lille 0-1

Just 7 minutes into the first half, a clearing error by Tsimikas gave the ball to the visitors. Haraldsson He thanked the defender and calmly beat Svilar, giving Lille a 1-0 lead. Roma felt the blow but responded with determination, raising the tempo and taking control of the game. The clearest chance to equalize came in the 34th minute: a confused play in the box with Tsimikas himself and El Aynaoui attempting to push the ball over the line, but a prodigious intervention by a French defender, positioned on the line, denied the Moroccan midfielder the joy of his first goal for the Giallorossi.

In the second half, Gasperini's team further raised the bar, forcing Lille back into their own half. The Giallorossi attacked relentlessly and found a great chance to level the score in the 81st minute. A handball in the penalty area by Mandi prompted the referee to award a penalty. But then the incredible happened. The spot kick was retaken three times due to fouls by the French goalkeeper, but on all three attempts (twice by Dovbyk and once by Soulé), Roma failed to convert, letting their last great opportunity to equalize slip away. Ends 0-1.

Bologna-Fribourg 1-1

The first real chance came in the 17th minute, when Castro tried to shake up his team with a powerful right-footed shot that went wide of the right post. The visitors' response was quick, and full-back Lienhart attempted a header, but it didn't pose any real danger. Following a corner, Manzambi came close to scoring, but Castro cleared it almost off the line. Shortly after, Lienhart forced the Rossoblu defense to take cover with a vicious deflection. The game seemed deadlocked, but in the 28th minute, the breakthrough arrived. Odgaard's cross came from the left, but goalkeeper Atubolu couldn't hold it, and the quickest of all was Ursu which he scores to make it 1-0.

Freiburg surged in the second half. In the 54th minute, Scherhant tested Skorupski with a dangerous shot. From the ensuing corner, a furious scramble in the box landed the ball at Ginter's feet: Castro deflected it and handled it. The referee, alerted by VAR, pointed to the spot. He took the penalty. Junior Adamu He's incredibly cool and beats Skorupski to make it 1-1. In the 69th minute, Skorupski makes two more prodigious saves to avoid defeat, first on Scherhant's close-range shot, then on a blistering counterattack finished by Beste. In the final minutes, Odgaard tries with a powerful right-footer, but Atubolu responds with a great save. The match ends 1-1.
