Champions League: Samardzic gives Atalanta a win, Inter takes risks but makes no mistake against Kairat.
After draws for Napoli and Juventus, two victories have arrived for the Italian teams competing in the Champions League this Wednesday. Atalanta conquered the Velodrome in Marseille in the final minutes thanks to a gem from Samardzic, moving up to seven points. Inter, however, struggled more than expected against Kairat, but a 2-1 victory secured the Nerazzurri third place in the League Phase with a perfect record.
Marseille-Atalanta 0-1
In the first half, Dea immediately had a chance to take the lead. In the 14th minute, a misplaced clearance by Rulli gifted the ball to Lookman, who played it through to Krstovic. The Montenegrin was brought down in the penalty area by the Argentine goalkeeper, and referee Sánchez had no hesitation in pointing to the spot. De Ketelaere stepped up to take the penalty, but Rulli recovered and saved, preventing a 0-1 loss for the visitors. Marseille responded in the 23rd minute with Aubameyang, who turned well and fired with his right foot, but was met by an alert Carnesecchi. In the 35th minute, Krstovic squandered a great opportunity by firing over from a great position after a scramble in the box stemming from Lookman's initiative.
In the second half, Juric's team started strongly and came close to scoring again: in the 49th minute, Bellanova made a perfect run to Zappacosta's cross, but from close range, he headed wide. The home team attempted to respond and created the only real threat through Højbjerg, but Ahanor managed to deflect the ball in the nick of time, keeping the goal intact. In the 69th minute, Lookman collected a Bellanova cross and scored from a few meters away, but after a lengthy review, VAR ruled it out for Krstović's offside at the start of the move. Marseille's pressure mounted towards the end, and the French protested for an alleged handball by Ederson in the penalty area, but the referee let it stand. On the counterattack, Samardzic, who had just come on, invented a spectacular left-footed shot from the edge of the box that went under the crossbar for the 0-1 final.
Inter-Kairat Almaty 2-1
Inter started the first half strongly, creating numerous chances. In the 10th minute, Anarbekov blocked Dimarco's shot, then Sorokin cleared Lautaro Martínez's right-footed shot off the line. Shortly after, Esposito found a good ball in the box but inadvertently hit his Argentine teammate. Kairat responded in the 28th minute with Edmilson's header forcing Sommer into a great save, while at the end of the half, Satpayev clipped the crossbar after a deflection off De Vrij. However, the Nerazzurri took the lead late in the first half. Dumfries crossed, and Anarbekov made two saves, but on the third attempt, Lautaro he doesn't miss and scores the 1-0.
In the second half, Inter immediately came close to doubling their lead with Esposito, but once again the Kazakh goalkeeper saved. In the 55th minute, however, Kairat unexpectedly equalised with Arad who rises to the top of the pitch and surprises Sommer to make it 1-1. Chivu's team reacts immediately and finds the new lead with a great move. Esposito back-heels the ball to Carlos Augusto, who with a precise and powerful left foot beats Anarbekov for the 2-1 definitive.
