MotoGP: Here's how the last pre-championship tests went

The last official tests before the Thailand GP

MotoGP: here's how the last pre-season tests went.

The pre-season tests of Buriram, are officially over and MotoGP is ready to return to the track, again in Thailand, this weekend 28 February-2 March, for the first GP of the new season. In the meantime, here's what the latest tests have suggested.

Marquez in the lead, Ducati between doubts and confirmations

Marc Marquez did not break the official track record, but he still sent a clear signal to his rivals. In Buriram, during the final pre-season tests of 2025, the Ducati Lenovo Team rider dominated both days with a best time of 1:28.855, just a tenth and a half above the record set in 2024 by Francis Bagnaia. The Italian champion instead concluded the tests in fifth position. Despite the supremacy in the tests, Ducati faces the first round of the season with some uncertainties. The team manager Davide Tardozzi confirmed that the GP25s will receive updates only to the electronics and suspension, while the engine, chassis and aerodynamics will remain those of 2024.

Aprilia in form, Honda on the rise

Marco Bezzecchi impressed with his Aprilia, setting a time of 1:29.060, the best ever recorded by an RS-GP in Buriram. The Italian rider also showed excellent performance in a Sprint simulation, confirming his rapid adaptation to the Noale bike. Also present on the track were the tester Lorenzo Savadori e Raul fernandez (Trackhouse MotoGP Team), with the latter limited by an injury sustained in Malaysia and only able to finish thirteenth.

Positive signs for Honda: Joan mir (Honda HRC Castrol) finished a surprising sixth, posting the fastest lap ever recorded on an RC213V. Mir also showed competitive pace in the Sprint simulation. Luca marini finished the tests in fourteenth position, while Johann zarco he finished sixteenth.

The newcomers make themselves noticed

Among the rookies, Ai Ogura (Trackhouse MotoGP Team) was the fastest with a time of 1:29.6, followed by Fermin Aldeguer (Gresini Racing MotoGP). Somkiat Chantra (IDEMITSU Honda LCR) is instead proceeding with more caution in his MotoGP debut.

The last official tests have also concluded, the engines are warm and for the GP of Thailand February 28-March 2 everything is ready.
