Ancona: the second edition of the sports festival has concluded. Thousands of participants at the event, involving 120 sports clubs.

One hundred and twenty sports clubs involved, thousands of people of all ages arrived in the center to test the various sports disciplines, seven champions and four sports clubs of the capital: This is the outcome of the second edition of the 'Sports Festival', an initiative that took place yesterday from sea to sea, starting from the historic Regata del Conero del Passetto, passing through Piazza Cavour, Piazza Pertini, Piazza Roma and Corso Mazzini. The event took place throughout the day, from 10am to 20pm, and it wound its way through the heart of the city thanks to the setting up of numerous areas to test various sports disciplines.

“Ten thousand people took part in the second edition of an event that, I am sure, will continue to grow year after year – declares the Deputy Mayor with responsibility for Sport Giovanni Zinni – This Sunday confirms the strong bond between the city of Ancona and the world of sports, represented by over a hundred sports associations in the area, who have made the success of this event possible with their tireless work. From this stage we give the city of Ancona an appointment at the next sporting event: we look forward to seeing you with the boxing competition on Friday 4th October at 19pm at the Palaprometeo Estra for the WBC International Mediterranean title, organized by the Unione Pugilistica Anconitana. The spotlight will be on boxer Mattia Occhinero”.

The 2024 sports festival is a spin-off of the historic Conero Regata and, spread throughout the city centre, intends to rise year after year to moment of aggregation and promotion of sport in the most important period of the year for registrations in sports clubs, promoting the positive values ​​of sport.

“This day, which began this morning with the Conero Regatta, perfectly set in this sports festival, was experienced with great intensity by the population – Mayor Daniele Silvetti comments – and I thank the Sports Councilor for having conceived this event. I saw a great desire to be together, to promote sports and the many sports activities. I had the opportunity to see a great participation, even from people coming from outside the city, and this makes me very happy and I believe that it is the best way to promote sports and being together. The response was important and I thank all the volunteers involved for the correct implementation of this initiative".

The highlight of the event was the prizegiving, in the late afternoon, in Piazza Cavour, of well-known Ancona champions: the presenter Monica Picciafuoco called on stage, in order, the gymnast Tommaso Brugnami, the athlete Simone Barontini, Luigi Casadei of the Anthropos Athletics, Sarah Al Halwani of the Italian Taekwondo National Team of the Arma dei Carabinieri Sports Group, the Amazons Laura Marsili and Elena Carpano (endurance) and finally Elena and Rebecca Boari, members of the national agility team who will be present with their faithful four-legged friends. This was followed by the presentations of the teams The Begin volley Ancona, Beach volley School Ancona, Bola Padel Next and Club Scherma Ancona.

At the end of the ceremony it was finally The mayor delivered a plaque to Cristiana Conti for the thirtieth anniversary of the death of her father Italico, historic athlete to whom a sports facility in the city is dedicated.

The Ancona athletes who have distinguished themselves for their sporting merits have been rewarded numerous institutional authorities, including, in addition to the Mayor and Deputy Mayor of Ancona, the Councillor for Youth Policies Marco Battino, the President of CONI Marche Fabio Luna, the President of CIP Marche Luca Savoiardi, the Regional Councillor Marco Ausili and the municipal councillor Silvia Fattorini.

The main sponsors of the event were Banca Generali and Decathlon; finally, Coni Marche, Cip Marche, Sport e Salute Marche, FairPlay and Ateneo Sporting Club also contributed to the success of the event. The event was organized by the association 'Essere felici' in collaboration with the Municipality of Ancona.
