U20 Hockey World Championship: Italy loses 5-2 to Estonia, relegating the Azzurrini.
The Italian national ice hockey team's journey at the 2025 Under-20 World Championships, Division I Group B, ended on a bitter note. In the decisive match to ensure their continued qualification, Italy lost 5-2 to Estonia, a result that sealed their relegation to Division II Group A.
Italy-Estonia 2-5
The challenge opens in the best possible way for the young Italians, who start with determination and find the advantage at 6:51 thanks to Ferretti, good at finalizing an effective maneuver and putting the Azzurri ahead. The Estonian reaction, however, was not long in coming: at 17:07 Tammert re-establishes parity, capitalizing on a well-constructed action.
In the second period, Estonia further raised the level of cynicism and concreteness. After just 43 seconds, Timofeev He scored the 2-1 goal, taking advantage of a situation of numerical inferiority. Italy, however, did not give up and found the equalizer again at 18:04: once again Ferretti, with a precise shot, brings the score back to equilibrium and keeps the Azzurri's hopes alive.
The final period, however, proved fatal for the Italian team. The Estonians took control of the game and made the decisive run: Timofeev hits at 4:20, Burkov extends to 6:21 and, finally, the same Timofeev He finally closed the game at 13:17 with his hat-trick. It ends 2-5.
With this result, Italy concludes the 2025 U20 World Cup with just one win and three points overall.
