Milano Cortina 2026: between sports and works of value
Towards the Winter Olympics Milano-Cortina 2026
Milano Cortina 2026: between sports and works of value.
After Turin 2006, our country will host the Winter Olympic Games again twenty years later. These are the Winter Olympics of Milano-Cortina 2026, starting on February 6 and ending on February 22, 2026, while the Paralympics will follow from March 6 to 15. The formula with which we will host this great event will be characterized by innovation and sustainability.
The format of Milano-Cortina 2026
The big news of the Olympics Milano-Cortina 2026 will use existing facilities, to minimize the environmental impact. Another important novelty is the cities in which the Olympic disciplines will take place. The opening ceremony will be held in Milano, exactly at the stage San Siro which will see the Olympic Flame for the first time. Subsequently, the fashion capital will host some indoor games competitions (skating, hockey), while the other sports will take place between Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino. In particular, the locations involved will be: Livigno, Stelvio, Anterselva, Val di Fiemme with Predazzo, Tesero, Cortina (where the closing ceremony of the Paralympics will take place) and Verona, where right at thel'Arena di Verona, the closing ceremony of the Olympics and the opening ceremony of the Paralympics will take place. The choice to divide the Olympic Games into multiple locations is fundamental to enhance existing resources, without the need to build new infrastructure. Another fundamental aspect concerns the post-Olympics: each structure will be designed for future use that guarantees its functionality beyond the Games. For example, the Olympic Village, which will be located in Milano, there are plans to convert it into a university residence.
Workplace safety and economic-social development
During the conference Milano-Cortina 2026, held at Lombardy Palace, in the presence of the President of the Region Attilio Fontana e of the regional councillor for Education, Training and Work Simona Tironi, two main themes emerged: The value of sport as a driver of rebirth and the collaboration between Inail and the Lombardy Region for safety at work. The event was attended, among others, by Fabrizio D'Ascenzo, national president of Inail and Luca Pancalli, President of the Italian Paralympic Committee.
President Fontana expressed his opinion on the matter Milano-Cortina 2026: “represents an ambitious challenge that Lombardy is concretely addressing in terms of workplace safety. One of the key elements we are focusing on is an integrated approach to this issue, which promotes collaboration between all the actors involved: institutions, supervisory bodies, trade associations, workers' representatives, companies and local communities. And the agreement signed in recent days with trade associations and unions united to make workers' activity on construction sites safer is a concrete example”.

The commissioner Tironi spoke on the topic of 'Safety at work', stating: "The topic of health and safety in the workplace, especially with regard to the major works that we are completing in view of the start date of the Olympics, represents a huge opportunity for the Lombardy region, but also an important challenge of responsibility. The priority of the Lombardy Region is to continue to guarantee high safety standards, placing the value of each individual person and each individual worker at the center. The issue represents a key element in our training program, which we decline in an innovative way thanks to the most cutting-edge technological tools, such as augmented reality, with which we can experiment, for example, with the different risk scenarios and act in a preventive perspective. In the topic of major works, safety in the workplace takes on a central role, representing an important tool for supporting and developing the economic and productive sphere of the territory, but above all the social one".
The President of the Italian Paralympic Committee Luca Pancalli he expressed his opinion on the future of the works used, highlighting: “The assessment one year after the Olympics is positive both in terms of the results achieved by the world of sport and in terms of the work undertaken by the Foundation Milano Cortina 2026, which has made great efforts and overcome many obstacles. Organizing a major event like the Olympic Games requires great commitment from all the actors involved, in order to best address a challenge that involves a vast territory. For the Paralympic world, this factor represents a concrete challenge that stimulates us to grow, a challenge linked to the possibility of creating works that will last over time for the benefit of the community and the territory”.
Finally, the national president of Inail Fabrizio D'Ascenzo reiterated the importance of the synergy between Inail and the Lombardy Region: “Works that are well built, even with our support, safeguard the safety of the people who work there. In this, the synergy between Inail and the Lombardy Region is fundamental, because the preparation of an event then contributes to the success of the event itself. Sport is a discipline that can help the recovery of people who suffer. This is true not only for the Olympics, but also for the challenges to be faced in various daily activities”.
