Thanks to the result of the first leg, the Bianconeri gained the pass for Wednesday's final against a ten-man AC Milan for more than eighty minutes, due to a careless intervention by Rebic. Match which, as predicted, takes place at a slow pace with few clear scoring opportunities. Ronaldo hits the post from a penalty.
An abstinence, due and painful, 95 days long, full, despite everything, of clashes, long silences and hasty decisions. But today, 12 June, the day on which Mancini's national team would have played the opening match of Euro2020 in Rome, football has finally returned. He did it with the match between the two most successful teams in Italian football and despite the absence of the public on big occasions, in a surreal context, Juventus-Milan still remains an advertisement for football in the world.
It was less so, due to the spectacle offered on the pitch by the eleven chosen by Sarri and Pioli for obvious psycho-physical reasons. In the first half hour of the game, the Bianconeri showed excellent football at a good pace, thanks to constant pressing in the opponent's half of the field, but putting little effort into Donnarumma. Once they had acquired numerical superiority, Juventus stopped pressing on the accelerator, settling down and managing the result, consequently allowing Milan to gain confidence. At the interval Pioli redesigned his team and at the start of the second half Milan surprisingly had the ball in their hands. The Rossoneri tried to corner the Bianconeri, making themselves dangerous first with Calhanoglu and then with a header from Kjær, but the Juventus rearguard withstood the blow well. From 75' onwards, inevitably, the fatigue of the few training sessions began to appear for the players on the pitch. Although the two coaches both benefited from five substitutions, no substitute from the bench was able to have an impact on the match which did not offer any more excitement except in injury time with two long-range shots from the home team.
The Rossoneri emerge from the match with their heads held high, having played on par with Juventus in both matches. Sarri's team reaches its 19th Italian Cup final and will face the winner of Napoli-Inter on Wednesday evening in Rome.
A Milan that, despite the heavy absences due to suspension of Ibrahimovic, Theo Hernandez and Castillejo, and the injured Musacchio, has demonstrated that it has the right qualities to be able to put anyone in difficulty while also playing purposeful football and at a good pace. The performance of the two central defenders was excellent.
The Rossoneri, therefore, decimated, did not make a breakthrough: also punished by unfavorable episodes, Pioli's team saw yet another seasonal goal slip away. And if tonight's match saw Milan fall to their feet, the championship will require a completely different gear to try to gain a place in Europe.
