Lanciano Sport Center: three hundred athletes for the National Swimming Meeting.

Lanciano is preparing to welcome over three hundred athletes from central and southern Italy for the second National Swimming Meeting “Città di Lanciano”. The event, scheduled to start today, February 14, until February 16, will see the participation of young talents registered with FIN in the categories Esordienti A, Ragazzi, Juniores and Assoluti, ready to challenge each other in the various swimming specialties.

An event that celebrates swimming and sports in general

The official presentation of the Meeting took place on the morning of Thursday 13 February inside the sports facility, in a moment of sharing that also paid homage to the memory of the sports doctor Fiorello Pantaleo, struck down in recent days by a terrible disease, whose commitment to sport, particularly in aquatic disciplines and football, has left an indelible mark on the local sporting community.

They took part in the meeting Franco D'Intino, President of the Lanciano Sport Center; the mayor of Lanciano Filippo Paolini; the municipal councilor for Sport and deputy mayor Danilo Ranieri; the municipal councilor for Social Policies Cinzia Amoroso; the sports doctor and athletic trainer Francesco Maria Confalonieri; the Olympic swimming champion Domenico Fioravanti and Michele Borgia, president of the Bcc Abruzzese of Cappelle sul Tavo.

President D'Intino underlined: “At the Meeting there will be athletes registered with Fin, belonging to the categories Esordienti A, Ragazzi, Juniores and Assoluti. Each athlete can compete in series or heats and can participate in an unlimited number of races”.

The program includes heats and preliminaries for all swimming specialties: butterfly, backstroke, freestyle, breaststroke and medley. One of the most anticipated moments will be “The Australiana – Akron Trophy”, which will take place on Saturday afternoon at the end of the finals and will see the best eight absolute times, both male and female, established in the preliminaries of the previous day, compete.

A Paralympic swimming competition was also included in the Meeting, on which D'Intino remarked: “It will be a moment of great education and inclusion, capable of making this event truly for everyone.”

The Meeting will not only be a competitive event, but also an important opportunity for training and reflection on the values ​​of sport. On the morning of February 14, at 10.30:XNUMX, at the Polo Museale “Santo Spirito” in Lanciano, the conference entitled “Preparing the Future: Coaching, Ethics and Inclusion in Youth Sport”, with the participation of illustrious guests from the world of sport. Among them, the president of the Italian Swimming Federation Paolo Barelli, the president of Coni Abruzzo Enzo Imbastaro, the federal councilor FIN Roberto Del Bianco, the former Olympic bobsleigh champion Antonio Tartaglia, the CT of the national paralympic cycling team Pierpaolo Addesi, the former Olympic captain of the national volleyball team and mental coach Franco Bertoli and the finswimming and freediving champion and paracycling athlete Ilenia Colanero.

Lanciano swimming capital for a weekend

The Meeting “City of Lanciano” represents an event of great attraction not only for athletes, but also for families and enthusiasts, contributing to the promotion of the Frentano territory. Councilor Ranieri recalled: “Last year there is it was a peaceful invasion of athletes in the city, there were about 450 of them, plus parents and chaperones… A beautiful showcase that we like to promote. The national importance of the event is the result of a growth of the swimming movement in the area. Bringing champions to the city means giving the opportunity to our boys, girls and their families to see live the results that their sons and daughters can achieve with work, organization and discipline”. Borgia also highlighted “the social impulse of the event and how the Bcc is always present at events that enhance the territory and, in particular, young people”. 

Il Lanciano Sports Center, which hosts the event, is the first indoor aquatic center in the province of Chieti in terms of size and sports offerings. The facility hosts competitive swimming, water polo (Serie C), synchronized swimming and lifeguard teams, involving a catchment area of ​​approximately 83.000 inhabitants distributed over an area of ​​30-35 km. Currently, the facility has approximately 2.500 gym and pool members, with an increase of 60% compared to the previous season.

With the ribbon cutting scheduled for today at 15.30:XNUMX p.m., the second “Città di Lanciano” Meeting is preparing to offer three days of excitement, challenges and high-level sport, confirming itself as one of the most anticipated events in the national swimming calendar.
