The 2025/2026 season has been inaugurated State Police mountain safety and rescue service, also operational this year in the main ski resorts with high tourist density, with the aim of ensuring a peaceful holiday for enthusiasts who flock to the snow-covered slopes. In the six State Police ski detachments activated for the winter season – Aprica, Bormio, Chiesa in Valmalenco, Madesimo, Livigno and Cima Piazzi – the personnel, trained in rescue operations at the Alpine Training Centre in Moena, are employed seven days out of seven.

The service is aimed at monitoring the slopes as a specialized form of territorial control in the ski context, compliance with current legislation and the verification of criminal and administrative violationsAmong the main regulatory innovations are: the insurance obligation, the penalties for those who ski under the influence of alcohol or drugs and helmets mandatory for everyone, with the possibility of withdrawing the ski pass in case of repeat offences.

In addition to their police duties, operators intervene in accidents with rescue operations, collecting evidence useful for reconstructing the events, also in collaboration with medical rescue, mountain rescue, other police forces, and private entities.

During the Immaculate Conception long weekend just passed, the operators of the Mountain Safety and Rescue service in the areas of Madesimo, Chiesa in Valmalenco, Aprica, Bormio, and Livigno they intervened for 94 interventions, Of which 11 following clashes between skiers. In 6 In some cases, air ambulance intervention was necessary due to the serious injuries sustained.

They have been contested 21 administrative violations, Of which 11 for failure to wear a helmet – with withdrawal of the ski pass in case of repeat offence –, 5 for lack of compulsory insurance, 2 for failure to give way, 1 for speed e 2 against ski alps engaged in the ascent of the ski slope.

In detail about the rescue operations:

  • Madesimo: 28 interventions, 6 collisions and 1 air rescue.

  • Chiesa in Valmalenco: 22 rescues, 2 collisions and 1 air rescue.

  • Aprica: 8 people rescued.

  • Bormio: 22 interventions, 1 air rescue.

  • Livigno: 14 rescues, 2 collisions.

The report highlights intense operational activity and constant monitoring of the mountain area, to ensure the safety of skiers.
