Elderly scam in Val d'Elsa: four arrests thanks to Carabinieri intervention
A carefully planned scam has hit an elderly couple living in Val d'Elsa, deceived by four people — a man and three women, all coming from Campania - then arrested by the Carabinieri of Colle di Val d'ElsaIt all started with a phone call from a man who, pretending to be a Carabiniere of Siena, claimed that the car registered in her husband's name had been used in a robbery of a jewelry storeThe fake soldier urged the couple on, creating a climate of fear and urgency.
Shortly after, a woman showed up at the elders' door, claiming to be aappointed by the judge and asking to check the jewelry in the house. With this ploy, the scammer managed to get the jewelry handed over jewelry worth approximately 15.000 euros, who then reached his accomplices in the car, ready to flee.
Thanks to a report received during a preventive service, the Carabinieri were able to quickly locate the suspicious vehicle near the couple's home. The patrol intervened with professionalism and timeliness, blocking the four individuals. The search of the vehicle allowed the recovery the entire stolen goods, subsequently returned to the elders who, still shaken, recovered what had been stolen through deception.
The four subjects were taken to the holding rooms of the Carabinieri Stations of Poggibonsi and Radda in Chianti, available to the Judicial Authority. In fast-track trial, GIP of Siena validated the arrests and issued two precautionary measures: one residence obligation and an signature requirement in the region of belonging. For all the suspects, the presumption of innocence until any final sentence.
These arrests demonstrate how crucial the protection of the most vulnerable people, often hit by emotionally devastating scams that undermine trust, serenity and sense of security. The Carabinieri operation is part of a broader strategy of combating scams targeting the elderly, strengthened and promoted by Prefecture of Siena, which continues to raise awareness among citizens and strengthen preventive measures in the area.
