Also this year i young sicilians they will be able to do sports with the support of the Region. A decree with a notice for associations to express interest has been published on the website of the Department of Tourism, Sport and Entertainment. The initiative, launched two years ago on the proposal of the President of the Region Renato Schifani, is aimed at sports clubs and associations interested in participating. The aim is to introduce children and young people from Sicilian families with economic difficulties to sport. An initiative on which, also in 2025, the Region has invested 3 million euros. In 2024 it involved 16.233 boys and girls under 16.

«With this measure – says the President of the Region, Renato Schifani – we have allowed thousands of very young people to approach sport, to satisfy their legitimate desire to grow and have fun, channelling it into healthy recreational habits and away from potential risks of deviance. In fact, sports practice allows for the generation physical well-being but it is also a factor capable of creating sociality and community, to educate the youngest to healthy values».

«This measure, strongly desired by the regional government – ​​states the regional councillor for Sport, Elvira Amata – has allowed, last year, to extend the use of sports vouchers to all applicants, thus promoting the maximum participation of young people to sports practice. I thank all the sports clubs and associations that have joined the initiative and that collaborate in the growth of our children, promoting their inclusion and psychomotor development".

The expression of interest is aimed at new sports associations based in Sicily and affiliated with CONI or the Italian Paralympic Committee (CIP) which will be added to those who participated last year and automatically included among those adhering. The commission established by the regional department of Tourism, Sport and Entertainment will evaluate the admissibility conditions of the applications submitted and will publish the list of admitted sports clubs, to which families can subsequently contact to obtain vouchers.
