Messina, Centenary of Cannizzaro's death: the exhibition was inaugurated at the Palacultura Library

Messina, Thursday 2nd, at 17pm, at the Municipal Library at the Palacultura, in the presence of the Councilor for Culture Enzo Caruso, on the occasion of the centenary of the death of Tommaso Cannizzaro, an exhibition was inaugurated containing documents and texts that tell the story of his life, his friendships and his loves. Erudite poet, polyglot and translator, after whom the Municipal Library, a School and one of the most important streets in the City are named, passionate about Northern European and Eastern languages ​​and literatures, shy, shy and introverted, Tommaso Cannizzaro is today a still little-known character , sometimes forgotten, but so well known to his contemporaries that he had correspondents throughout Europe for whom he had recognition of esteem and affection.

For this reason the Municipal Administration, with the Department of Culture, wants to remember him with some initiatives aimed at valorising his works and his activity as a poet and translator, advocate of the birth of the city's civic library, to whom he donated 5000 texts, the correspondence and part of his manuscripts, so that the city also had a library open to all. On this occasion they will be read some published poems. The exhibition, organized and curated by the Library staff, in concert with Councilor Caruso, through a long and painstaking selection and installation work, will be open to visitors. until February 1 2022 in the Reading Room of the Library.

Thursday December 16, at 17pm, in the Sala Palumbo, the second edition of the Divine Comedy translated into Sicilian by Tommaso Cannizzaro published by the Pungitopo publishing house in 2021 will be presented. Mario Sarica, Lillina Morabito and Lucio Falcone will speak.
Monday December 20, at 17pm, in the Sala Palumbo, there will finally be the presentation of the 2nd issue of the Notebooks of the Library and Historical Archives "Poems from the Marchesino 1894-1921″, edited by Alba Crea, with various contributions. The volume will be presented by Sergio Todesco and during the evening there will be readings of poems and unpublished musical performances
