Messina, the "VISITME" Tourism Portal which can be visited online through augmented reality was presented today at the Palacultura.
The "VisitME" Tourism Portal was illustrated today at the Palacultura Auditorium, created as part of the "Agorà" project, promoted by the Municipality - Tourism and Brand Department of Messina and can be visited on the institutional website starting from Monday 14 February at address www.visitme.comune.messina.it . In the presence of the Deputy Mayor and Councilor for Smart City Carlotta Previti, the Councilor for Tourism and Brand Messina Enzo Caruso took part in the event, presenting the Agorà project, together with the scientific coordinator of the project from the University of Messina Massimo Villari and the project manager of the Agorà project Gianluca Nunnari.
The presentation, introduced and coordinated by the Digital Transaction Manager of the Municipality of Messina Placido Accolla, was followed by the press, by representatives of the cultural and commercial institutions with category representatives, of hotel and non-hotel facilities, of the ProLoco and tourist operators and cultural. During the institutional greetings, Deputy Mayor Previti underlined that she was particularly proud today “for the presentation of teamwork in which Councilor Caruso was the driving force behind carrying out a project based on services dedicated to tourism, digitizing them to improve their quality. Messina is a splendid tourist city and the objective is to make the support services excellent. The project was shared with the economic-social actors and sector operators. The tourist offer must be made simple, captivating, productive and attractive. I thank those present and professor Massimo Villari. VISITME is a tool that we entrust to the city, to tourists and to sector professionals. The municipal administration has already launched various interventions which place it in constant growth in the ranking of national 'smart cities' and in line with the actions envisaged with axis I of the PON METRO, which has given rise to a modernization process digital of the entire territory, in order to support the provision of digital services to the citizen, thus raising the effectiveness and quality level of the services provided by the body in line with the mission of the Digital Agenda of the municipal administration".
Councilor Caruso, who outlined the guidelines and the multimedia graphics, added that “Finally the Municipality of Messina has equipped itself with a fundamental tool to convey and promote the image of our city on a tourist level. This site is not only useful for tourists who want to know what Messina has to offer, but also for all operators in the sector who want to create packages for stays in the city, using the peculiarities and excellences of our territory. At the request of Deputy Mayor Previti I worked on this site with the aim of looking at it through the eyes of a cultural operator and/or a tourist, giving it an emotional aspect that also allows you to enjoy routes, excursions, including those characteristic of the seabed of the Strait, photos and images. The Infopoint, the toponymic maps equipped with QR Code and the signs are some of the initiatives established by the municipal administration to make Messina increasingly beautiful, productive and welcoming".
The Municipality therefore provides itself with a showcase of the excellence of the territory through emotional videos, augmented reality, texts and images that list sites of interest, festivals, landscapes and gastronomy of the city territory, useful for the construction of tourist offers and stay packages with excursions and walks in the city. The site therefore presents a potential promotion of the City of Messina that each operator will be able to use to convey their offer and their services. The Agorà project aims to define ways and times for the development of digital services capable of promoting the territory of the Municipality of Messina and facilitating the experience of citizens and tourists through the inclusion in the system of the tourist-cultural offer and the leisure opportunities offered by the metropolitan area; in particular Agorà has the aim of making the historical-artistic heritage and the vast cultural offer known to all the citizens of Messina and the entire metropolitan belt, as well as making it more accessible and easily accessible to the hundreds of thousands of tourists who visit annually the territories of the metropolitan area. Professor Villari highlighted how "It is our duty to make Messina more and more welcoming and with the municipal administration, by sharing these choices and paths, we immediately entered into perfect harmony", while Eng. Nunnari illustrated "the website, the videos with 360 degree city tours, the institutional places, the descriptive sheets with easily accessible texts, the events of Messina, the food and wine part, agencies and qualified tourist guides". The site will then be translated into multilingual and can be improved through the inclusion of proposals, suggestions, ideas and new contributions to be addressed to the IT Services office.
