Modena, seventh edition of the Renzo Imbeni Summer School.
Inauguration ceremony, today morning, for the seventh edition of the Renzo Imbeni Summer School, the school of higher education on the European Union, in which thirty recent graduates participate, dedicated this year to “A political union, a new world. A Europe that protects and innovates”.
When presenting the course, the scientific director of the School Marco Gestri underlined that, in the European Year of Youth, the Summer School «it will delve into the issues that most concern future generations, first and foremost peace».
The war, which returned to the heart of Europe with the invasion of Ukraine, «is inevitably at the center of the program which will address not only the European Union's response through the instrument of sanctions, but also aspects such as the energy and food crisis, and the repercussions that the conflict has had on the birth of a more decisive foreign and defense policy of the Union. But in different sessions - continued Gestri - we will also address other issues related to the rights of young people in particular regarding the protection of the environment and the fight against climate change and the impact on our communities of the Next Generation EU strategy and the National Recovery and Resilience Plan».
Promoted by the Municipality of Modena, in partnership with the University of Modena and Reggio Emilia, with the Collegio San Carlo Foundation and with the support of the Modena Foundation, the Summer School opened with the institutional greeting of the mayor Gian Carlo Muzzarelli , by the rector of UniMoRe Carlo Adolfo Porro, by the president of the Modena Foundation Paolo Cavicchioli.
Massimo Gaudina, director of the Representation a, spoke to underline the role of the European institutions Milano of the European Commission and Carlo Corazza, director of the European Parliament Office in Italy. The inauguration ceremony, chaired by Giuliano Albarani, president of the Collegio San Carlo Foundation, concluded with a greeting from the president of the Emilia Romagna Region Stefano Bonaccini and with the speech of Valentina Imbeni, daughter of Renzo Imbeni, vice president of the European Parliament for ten years, between 1994 and 2004, after whom the school is named.
The Summer School will continue until Tuesday 6 September, with a dozen events open to the public and over 40 speakers. The meetings take place at the headquarters of the Collegio San Carlo Foundation, in via San Carlo 5 in Modena.
Among the thirty students selected for the course, two will have the opportunity of a six-month internship at the European Parliament in Brussels, with a 5 thousand euro scholarship.
