The 783rd academic year of the University of Siena has been inaugurated
In praise of the future “Universities are builders of the future. The best is yet to come” For students, a quote from Italo Calvino: “Sometimes one feels incomplete and is only young”.
It was held today, 24th November, the inauguration of 783 ° year academic ofUniversity of Siena. The ceremony was opened, in the Aula Magna of the Rector's Palace, by the academic procession and the greeting of the Sienese Goliards. The Rector Roberto Di Pietra then took his seat together with the directors of the 14 departments, some of the teaching delegates and the General Director Emanuele Fidora.
Professor Di Pietra greeted and thanked the Minister of University and Research Sen. Prof. Anna Maria Bernini, who spoke at the ceremony, for the close proximity and collaboration with the Italian university system that she has been able to establish during this first year of government.
On the occasion of the inauguration of the academic year of the University of Siena, the Minister of University and Research, Anna Maria Bernini, said:
“The University is the universal place of discussion. But it is necessary to express one's position in a peaceful manner, naturally also taking into account the positions of others. One's point of view told alone without the ability to listen to that of others is too one-sided to be called democratic.
I greatly appreciate the free expression of thought and also in this sense the University is universitas, a place where there is the ability to discuss things equally, having the same possibility of expressing one's opposing opinions. This is democracy. For me it is important to engage with the entire university community."
A speech projected into the future that of Stone Rector: “By their mission, universities are “builders of the future”. The construction of our future concerns the redefinition of our educational offer, an activity that must be constant, but which in this phase takes on a strategic connotation. The training offer must be reviewed, first of all, to guarantee the characteristics that characterize it or its being multi-vocal and increasingly aimed at an international perspective. These two characteristics are now founding elements of our University."
At the end of his report the Rector Roberto Di Pietra said the 783rd academic year of the University of Siena has been declared open. After the Rector's report, speeches were held by the representative of the students, Samuele Picchianti, and the representative of the technical, administrative and library staff, Paola Barbi.
The ceremony was concluded by the University Choir, directed by Professor Elisabetta Miraldi, who sang the Gaudeamus Igitur and other harmonies from their repertoire. On this occasion, a study was published by the Sienese Goliardi that reconstructs the 130 years of history of the University of Siena's labarum.
