Celle Ligure, the International Festival of Independent Cinema returns: its 13th edition is dedicated to Lina Wertmüller.

From October 1st to 5th 2025, screenings, workshops, and the Liguria Film Market will take place: the Ligurian village will become the capital of independent cinema, with international guests.

It will open with the ribbon cutting on the red carpet of one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, Wednesday, October 1st at 10:00 a.m., the thirteenth edition of the Celle Ligure International Independent Film Festival, which this year pays homage to Italian director Lina Wertmüller.

The initiative is organized byProgetto CineIndipendente association, under the patronage of the Liguria RegionIn partnership with CNA Cinema and Audiovisual Liguria and the Municipality of Celle Ligure, with the patronage of the Genova Liguria Film Commission and the support of the Compagnia di San Paolo Foundation.

A widespread and interactive exhibition

From 1st to 5rd October, the socio-cultural centre “Raffaele Arecco” and Various spaces in the city will host more than twenty-five screenings of feature films, documentaries and short films from Italy, France, the United States, Switzerland and Croatia., with a particular openness to border stories and diaspora cultures.

The official presenter of the Festival will be actress Eloise Valli. Alongside her, numerous people are expected National and international guests: French director Joan Oduotan, producer Franco Boccagersi, screenwriter Giovanni Robbiano, director Henry Secchiaroli and actress Claudia Salvatore, to name a few.

Not only screenings, because the program includes numerous collateral events and moments of study, such as the the workshop “The Cinematographer's Profession,” dedicated to the professions in the sector, and the panel “The Languages ​​and Connections of Cinema in Communication.” These activities are supported by the filmmaker call, dedicated to young people between the ages of 18 and 28. During the five days of the Festival, the latter will have to create short documentary reports capable of describing the Ligurian region and cinema, combining education, creativity and cinematic storytelling.

Alfonso Cioce, director and spokesperson for CNA Cinema and Audiovisual Liguria, underlines that “The aim is to encourage interaction between Ligurian productions and those of the North West – in particular Piedmont and Lombardy – with Swiss and French producers, to start new international co-productions and raise the level of competitiveness on a global scale. Looking to the future, the association also intends to promote the creation of an industrial interest area involving Liguria, Piedmont, and Lombardy.

The big news of the 2025 edition is the first edition of the Liguria Film Market, organized in collaboration with CNA Cinema Liguria and the CNA Savona structure, scheduled 2 from October to 4Three days dedicated to the training of the audiovisual supply chain with working groups, international co-production meetings, screenwriting and co-production masterclasses, and the participation of delegations of French and Swiss producers accompanied by international tutors.

With masterclasses and workshops Ligurian businesses and professionals will learn how to make a national or international co-production, understanding how co-production calls work and how co-production agreements are drawn up. Developing the opportunity to directly network with producers from other countries who will participate in person and online.
